To me if we are pulling the dash it makes it so much easier. The instructions are designed for pulling the pad out of the car. In your case with just doing the switch you may want to just lower it with the two bolts under the dash. You just want to keep the pressure off the dash pad at the column.. it wrinkles from the weight and can break the plastic on the back if not careful.

The column is not that hard to remove... five bolts two under the dash, two at the firewall and one at the coupling. Remove the wires for the ign switch and t/s swt

So removing the two bolts it's enough to lower the column? no possibility to damage the column itself?

Hi,
I think if you just remove the 2 bolts from the column mount under the dash pad it puts a lot of strain on the point at which the column passes through the firewall. I remove the 2 nuts at that point too. Doing that also lets the column drop down another inch or two which makes working with the dash pad easier.
I've also read that you shouldn't let the column just 'hang' while working on the dash. So I rig up some kind of support for it.
Regards,
Alan

I feel like I'm missing something here on my 77. How do I get this to connect with the dash pad? Am I missing a part or just a step?

Many thanks!

Gregg

Peterbuilt....thank you so much! That solved the problem. Apparently at some point the nut disappeared. No wonder that step made no sense!

Now to get one ordered!

While we are on this subject does anyone know the bolt size for the air con vent on a 79. I am doing the headlight switch and lying on my back shining a light I can see òne bolt but can see it will be a pain to get both out and easier to know the rite bolt size before starting. Thankx

Zip Corvette uses Corvette Magazine tutorial articles. So check out Zip Corvette help articles and if that doesn't work out, or you can't find it, check Corvette Magazine.com. Lou.
