Default Correct SMOG Pump for late 69 350 300 HP

I am restoring my late 1969 (June 69) with original SMOG Pump parts. I am confused because my 1969 Assembly Manual indicated Correct part is 7803948, but I have seen listings for part number 7801149 as the casting number for 1969 SMOG Pumps. Is 7803948 the GM Part Number and 7801149 the casting number?

Is 7803948 early 69 and 7801149 late 69?

The casting 7801149 is the general number used on most GM smog pumps from (I think) 68 to the mid seventies. This is the correct casting number for the 69. This is cast into the back of the pump and can be easily seen. The 'part number" (again....I think) is behind the white filter fan and is not seen or judged as it has to be taken apart. They do though have dates on the pump but they are kinda hard to see. My guess is the other number you mentioned is the "part number".

hope that helps, take care, john

Default 69 Corvette SMOG PUMP..

Thanks for the response on the SMOG Pump.. I have seen some of the 7801149 with some kind of valve on top. But I have seen correctly restored (NCRS?) engine compartments that do not have the valve on top. I understand the the valve was used on the 1968 but not 1969??

I guess the re-builders could place the 7801149 back part on the housing with the valve.

I have the correct diverter valve, so maybe diverter valve replace the valve on top of the AIR Pump??

The #149 is correct for '69 but as John says, its correct for a lot of applications. The correct part number is found under the white plastic fan and is not judged in NCRS.

The top relief valve is mostly associated with the '68s, but I believe it is also correct on early '69s. I think your car is too late for one.

I'm not sure about the part number you have for the pump... my information says 7805650 for 1969.

The diverter valve does not affect the relief on the top. The correct diverter, elbow and outlet tee is important to get the part to fit Corvette correctly. The correct diverter is 7029199. I believe # 3951346 also works as a replacement. Other numbers I've seen used are 29190 (72 BB) 29296 (check orientation) and 7034481. However, 29199 is the right one for sure.

The date is found on the bottom of the pump, but the pumps can be used cosmetically through '72 I believe. This date is not NCRS judged.

The grey muffler on the diverter and the stamped broadcast code (GL for your car) are other details.

Also, you need pulley number 3917234 for 300 hp, as well as check valves and tubes.

Default 1969 SMOG PUMP Installed!

I found a 7804199 Pump on E-Bay with a 29190 Diverter Valve for $50.

I think I got a good deal because I all ready had the 29199 Diverter valve for my 1969 350. I believe the 29190 Diverter valve is for the 1970 454??

If you know someone that wants one, let me know.

Once again, I have found some surprises with the way that GM designed this system..
1. Because the Heater hose connection on the front of the intake comes out of the manifold directly below the diverter valve the heater hose rests against the Diverter valve. I presume this would cause wear over the long run due to vibrations. I have Stainless Steel Braid over the heater hoses so this is really not a big concern.

2. The Fuel return hose that comes off the the GF-432 filter comes very close to the Diverter Valve Muffler. It is almost between the muffler and the valve assembly. I will try repositioning the vent hose from the Fuel Filter out a little to avoid the close proximity.

3. I am awaiting the correct A.I.R. Belt for a 350/300 HP. Apparently GM wanted to use as many different part numbers for each variation of each motor.
One size does not fit all. My favorite Corvette Parts place (Ecklers) did not have a 350/300 HP A.I.R. Belt for a 1969 w/o A/C or Power steering. They had lot of other variations, but could not find any the had the part 3881872 Stamp.

As soon as I get the belt, I will hope fully be pumping fresh air into my exhaust and helping the environment. I will post a picture when I get it operational.

I found a 7917324 pulley with spacer and bolts in (Switzerland) surprise?? Don't ask me how one got there, but they had it in the attic.
I noticed that it had a dark brown finish with some light rust.
I want to clean it up and repaint, but I do not know if these were originally dark brown?
I could not tell from the pictures of your motor.

It seems that most of the pictures I see on Ebay are of the same brown color?

Should I leave it original??
Thanks again for your help!!

Hi b,
The number I'm seeing for the diverter valve on all 69 350 engines is 29199. It's stamped on the flat surface below the muffler. There was also a sticker for the broadcast code GL.
Regards.
Alan

on the smog pump itself, I am finding different configurations for it, searching through the auto parts system at work they show this pump with the exhaust port on the pump,i.e. the muffler attaches to the pump, is this the one for an a/c equipped car? '72 and up show without.

Hi b,
The information I'm looking at indicates the A.I.R. pump for 69 had a casting number of 7805650. It's only visible with the fan removed.
In early 69 a pressure relief valve is mounted on the pump case, while later 69 pumps don't have the valve.
Regards,
Alan

I keep getting 73-74 without the port on the pump. 7805650 keeps coming up later years. 68-70 shows the port for the muffler on the pump. confusing. I just want to get it right before the investment is made. thanks again alan

did replacement from the local parts store reflect this? it seems not to. the old books don't reflect early and late. half the replacement parts are still available from my supplier.it looks to me that repair parts are different from factory ones. I don't mind that if it can be proven.
