Spare tire carrier
I want to install my spare tire carrier but not sure what bolts to get and how many. All I have is the carrier, no hardware. Does anyone sell a bolt/mounting kit? My car is a 79.
Thanks
Dan

Hey Dan,
To lock the carrier into place you'll need this kit : spare tire lock bolt assy
To fix the carrier to the frame you'll need two of these : hanger bolt
I couldn't find anything similair on the Willcox side but I guess Ernie could help you with this if you want to compare prices etc. Posted the links from zip as there's a technical diagram showing where verything goes.

Order the assembly instruction manual (AIM) when you order your hanger bolts. The AIM shows the installation.

Dembo,
Thank you very much...I had looked at the AIM but could not find anything on the website, guess I was just looking in the wrong place. Mike thank you also, I just looked at every website except ZIP and couldn't find them, Guess I need to check each site next time.

Almost all the aftermarket providers carry the AIMs. I'm sure ZIP has them. Check under Books & Manuals.
Willcox has them: http://willcoxcorvette.com/advanced_...sort=3a&page=3
You can get them on CD or the hard copy paper version. The hard copy are 8 1/2 x 11 and punched to fit a three ring binder.
Choice of format is up to you. I like the paper versions but I'm an old fart and stuck in my ways. I bought my first AIM in the last century and before there ever was a CD.

I don't know what the kit cost. But if your not worried about stock you can buy two bolts two washers and two locking nuts at the hardware store. That's what I did on my 70. The previous owner was kind enough to leave me with a non-stock car, so I am free. PM me if you want to go that route.

PM sent to 7dshark.
I have the AIM and the parts break down book. Did not really think that it would cost over 60 bucks to mount that thing up there. I am going to spend the weekend cleaning up the carrier and trying to mount up the mufflers so they fit.

I have the hangers and the bolt assembly for the drop down just like the pics dembo is linking to. It came off of an 82 but I'm sure it will work for your 79. PM me an address and you can have them. FREE

To mean to be a party pooper, but I don't think those are right for a 79. I've had mine out, and don't remeber the "hook" hangers. The 2 peices on the rigtht look correct to me. This is going from memory, and it has been a couple of years, so take that into consideration. Obviously if you're getting them for free, it can't hurt to try them.

Those bolts don't happen to have "MF" stamped on the end do they??

C3 4ME,
I think you are right. I will see if they fit. I know that the 2 on the right are correct, I will see if the hooks work.
Did a test fit of the spare tire carrier and the part that goes right up against the fuel tank does not fit perfectly so I may have to modify the holes in it. It is plastic so It should not hurt it. Only talking about a 1/4 inch.

esierra,
My carrier (in the AIM) has 4 short bolts holding the plastic part to the frame and 3 long ones holding the other half of the carrier to the frame. It is pretty amazing that the spare tire carriers were different for almost every year.

dgood, YOU RIGHT. I just looked at the 73 and 77 and there the same, 4 bolts holding up the top and three long one's holding the carrier cover. My bad, I know they all go in that general area cause I put them in a Bagie when I took all of that down to take the gas tank out.

esierra,
Thank you very much, that is exactly what I need. I think I will take the pictures and see if I can make something up until I get the correct bolts. Thanks. I may even be able to use the long brackets that Tally Ho is sending me.

The parts are headed your way this morning. Use what you can. None of it is doing me any good sitting in a box.
