Oil Pressure

Oil Pressure
I have a 70 vette with the 350/350 motor. I rebuilt the motor, crank was turned, cylinders were bored out. I put in a high pressure oil pump. When the engine is cold, like the outside temp is 90, when you start the car the oil pressure is peg over 70, after the car warms to running tempture and the motor is not at idle, the oil pressure is arround 45 or 50, at idle the pressure drops to about 25. Any ideas on what might be going on?
Thanks

Sounds normal, what exactly is your concern/question?
The high pressure when the engine is cold is because of the high-pressure spring. Not a big concern, if you drop the pan for whatever reason in the future, I'd put the regular spring back in as that's all you need.

So what's the problem....your readings seem normal except the idle pressure but that is dependant on your idle rpm. Rule of thumb is 10lbs of pressure per 1000 rpm @ normal operating temp. MY in drive idle is aprox 750 rpm so my oil pressure is less than 10lbs on the gauge.

Will you reveal what weight engine oil you're using or should we guess? Just that one simple fact would do well to determine your problem as too thick oil will tend to peg your gauge at startup. You're welcome.
