My hood release handle has seen better days...I see handles with the cable for sale..Can i just release the cable from engine compartment and replace with new handle and cable without messing with the bracket? thanks, jeff

Hi F,
I believe you have to buy the complete assembly including the sheath and bracket; but you can pull the handle/cable out of the new assembly and slip it into the old one.
Why not just repaint the existing handle?

Alan

Hi F,
I repainted my handle with good old Krylon #1613.
I used some water based white craft paint for the letters. I used a tiny brush to put it in the letters as carefully as possible and then used a damp cloth held very tightly on my finger to wipe over the letters and ended up with a very neat looking job.
Worth a try?
Regards,
Alan

I recently went through this while trying to remove some overspray from a recent repaint of my car. when cleaning the handle, I decided to remove all of the black paint from the handle, except inside the letters, (yes, it is black under the white), polish it out to a shine, and a light coat of clear to protect the finish. Not NCRS, but an option if that does not matter.

Just had to replace mine. The only thing that comes in the replacement is the wire and handle, you just slide it through the sheath and put on the nut to hold it. Much simpler than I expected.

Slides right in unless you mess around and bend the sheath...
The wire is pretty fine and has plenty of room so it slides in pretty easy. I was prepared for a battle. The worst part is tightening the barrel nut. I put loctite on the screw just to make sure it would stay.

Hi,
cv, you're right.
Where I first looked only showed the complete assembly, but now I see just the handle and cable is offered at other venders for less than 1/2 the price!
Regards,
Alan
