Default Door Ajar lamp

HI
on my 73 the door ajar lamp on the dash stays on, i assume the switches in the door jamb "B" pillar area are the switches for this? i removed them both, and there is 1- wire on the drivers side and 2- on the passenger side switch, i cleaned the switches up, and replaced 1- connector as it was cracked, and still the light is on-- any help would be appreciated-- does this light also come on if the hood is up as i see a door jamb type of switch there too--

thank you

Are you sure you dont have a disconnected wire in the drivers side pillar? The switch under the hood would be for an alarm.

Are the rubber bumpers positioned correctly on the doors? One of mine would slip down just a little and not press the switch in.

Have someone help and hold the switches in manually and make sure they work.

The switches work by breaking the circuit so it's normally the other way around (the light will not come on) when the switch fails

Yes. Door Ajar switches have two leads. You may have to fish for the missing one on the driver's side.

I'm not sure with the 73's but the 72 with an alarm has 3 wires on the switch;
Ground
Lt-blue (up to the bulb)
white (?) for the alarm circuit

If the light is staying on, chanced are the lt-blue wire is probably pinched (grounded) somewhere

The Lectric Limited wiring diagram for my 73 shows 3 wire going to each Door Ajar switch: light blue, white and black. The Anti Theft Hood Switch shows two wires: black and white.
Another 73 wiring diagram, available from a Forum member, shows a light blue and pink wire to the same terminals on the switch with another terminal being grounded. This is what I remember the last time I had them apart on my 73.

I'm wondering if the pink is what he's seeing as lt-brown.

My error. The Forum member diagram shows a light blue and a white wire going to the door ajar switch. The pink and light blue wires are to the Door Ajar bulb. My white wire was dirty, maybe making it look tan?

You may be able to get to the wire by pulling up the carpet on the bulkhead behind your seats. When I replaced my carpet I found that the blu / wht wire ran along the bulkhead, between the two switches, and then into a harness under the middle storage bin.

My indicator and wiring worked fine until I tried to replace the old dried wire. Now my idiot light is on all the time too - it will be nice to see how you end up rewiring these swithces, then I can remove the black tape covering that red light on the dash!
