Do a search for aftermarket gauges or autometer gauges and you will find all sorts.
I'm putting in Phantom's right now so I don't have any "after" pics but here is a pic with all but one gauge in the center cluster.

I kept original gauges but put the white face overlays on them. I like them, especially for 20 bucks...

I also installed the white face overlays on my original guages. It's easy and looks great.

I've been checking these out. Lot cheaper the Autometer, and what could be more appropriate for a C3 than "Shark Gauges"?

No PIX, also no stereo/tunes.....and so I bent up a aluminum plate for the center gauges, that are white faced and the overlays done for the speedo/tach, my tach is from a 75-77 and so the white overlays don't line up on the bolt holes in the dial center, a little paint made it somewhat passable, the old '72 speedo was a stamped relief to the numbers too, so not really good either.....but unless stared at, it passes ok, the sides of the center plate are odd shaped plates screwed into the dash pads on either side, the top vent/wiper is stock piece, and it all fits in nice.....

With the overlays, you can request a different redline for your tach. (You can see what mrvette is talking about near the rivets.)

I like the white overlays. Is there a " how to " on installing them?

Not when I installed mine. They give you the basics but the only tricky part is getting everything properly aligned so 60 is really 60 and not 62. You do have to lightly sand the old gauge faces and clean them thoroughly. Just have to be careful.

I'm not the best at writing a "how to" but I'll say this...I needed to do something with my gauges. They had surface rust and looked horrible. I very heavily contemplated the "Shark" gauges posted above....But I decided on the white overlays since they were cheap and my oem gauges did function......

The kit I purchased actually had several different year 'vette overlays in the package...I can't remember what all years it covered but there were several...

I lightly scuffed my gauge faces with scotchbright pads and cleaned with alcohol cleaner...I used a small squirt bottle with a drop of soap to keep the vinyl sticker from "sticking" until I felt it was positioned correctly.

I also decided since gauges were apart to go ahead and clean/paint housings..

As you can see they were kinda crusty....Installing the overlays was quite easy...You do not have to remove any needles...Just clean, spray light soapy solution and install. The little screws that hold the gauge faces on actually are used to align the overlays....

The little gauges were just as crappy....

After install

All of it on my "work" bench...

For $20 I was very impressed with the quality of the overlays, them including all the different year models in kit...saved me some bucks and looks great in my new black interior I think....

I removed mine. I suppose you could leave them in place but it would be a lot harder. Just be sure to put them back where you found them!

Do not have to remove the needles. The overlay is pretty tough and I believe the instructions say you don't have too either....

You wouldn't have to if the needles didn't have the extension on the back end. Because the needles extend both ways from the pivot point, you are not able to put the overlays on with the needles in place.

Once again....I did not remove my needles, nor did I "tear" the vinyl. It will go over quite easy without removing them.

I guess we had different experiences! Have you ever considered a career as a magician? I tried everything I could think of but still ended up pulling the needles.
