There's a left and a right support. D shaped hole.

It seems to help when you put the strut in the wheel side first then the diff side. Raising the TA up also helps the alignment, it does not go easy.

When I replaced mine this spring I hooked up the inside first, then muscled the shock mount ends in. Got them started in the slot, then gently persuaded them the rest of the way with a few taps of a hammer.

I also hooked the outboard end first and then the centers.

To get the shock mounts lined up, ended up grinding a larger chamfer on the old ones (I was replacing them) to allow it to "guide" its way through everything (the "D" shaped end can be a pain) and line it up. Then removed the old mount and slide the new ones in easily.

I used the adjustable struts so the rest of my install won't help in your case.
