Default 68' vac relay valve, where does it mount??

i know the 68' cars only have 2 actuator relay valves, one or the headlights, and one for the wiper door. i know where the headlight relay mounts, but can't find info (and can't find detail in AIM) for the wiper door actuator relay valve. i know it is somewhere on R/H inner fender, but WHERE, and how does it mount? does anyone have a pic of their 68' that would show this? thanks a bunch, Rick

Sure, if you don't mind waiting until morning.

hey Rick, i just went out to my shop to start working on the car for this evening. sure enough, the two holes are right where yours are, (were hidden a bit because of the undercoat that i had used in wheel wells)

they are smaller holes, (bolt size) i also realized that there is a nut plate on the wheel well side, so obviously i just need to mount the relay with the right small bolts! can't tell from your pic, but that puts it right next to wiper washer bottle (at least on mine) and hoses would end up routing over the top of the washer reservoir a bit...sound right? thanks again, Rick

thanks AGAIN Rick!! that's exactly what i thought, got my relay mounted last nigiht, now i'm ready to start running vacuum lines (roughly a mile of it, LOL)

i wonder what that orange wire and plug go to in your last pic? my new harness doesn't have that, i have the two wires that plug into the heater fan motor (ground and power) but no orange wire. does it go to heater motor also? thanks, Rick

I believe I spliced in (repaired) that orange as the power to the blower motor, 20some years ago. Don't know why I used orange.

well, i guess my question should have been why do you have 3 wires going to heater motor, my harness and car only have two...here are a couple of pics i took last night (btw, i got the vac relay mounted exactly as you described, and all of the engine wiring finished up) now i'm working on wiper door and rest of vacuum system...UGH, wish me LUCK! LOL

I'll have to take a better look at mine tomorrow. I see now that that isn't power to the blower. I'm going to have to find my mirror!

That looks great by the way and you'll do fine on the vacuum lines.

thanks Rick, and thanks for your help with the "visual aids" LOL...i'm not so worried about vacuum lines so much as i am about the "vacuum system" as a whole..who designed these things anyway....although, ya gotta admit, once its altogether, and hopefully works as it should, the pop up headlights and wiper door are COOL! I personally think the headlights and wiper door make the '68-'72 as much or more what they are as the chrome bumpers. Big mistake altering them IMHO, regardless of whether the car has it's original motor

Sometimes it's easier for me to take a picture than to explain what I see.

GM went to the vacuum system because it is more reliable than an electric motor system.
I really have not had much trouble with my 68 in over 40 years of use and 112,000 miles. Lou.
