Carb and Intake Recommendation 69 350/350
Just bought a 69 coupe with an original block with after market cam, heads, and intake (350/350). I have two Holley carbs and looking for suggestions on which one to use on this engine.
This is what I know about the engine:
Cam: Comp Cams XTREME Energy™ Hydraulic Flat Tappet Camshaft, 12-246-3, duration of 230/236, lift 0.49/0.49, lobe separation of 110
Heads: Dart Pro 1, 11320010, port vol of 200, chamber vol of 64
Intake: Edelbrock Torker (original), 5416, single plane
Pistons: Not sure what they are
The carbs I have are Holleys, 4150 and 4160. Both are unmodified. The car will be driven just on the street. I suspect the 4160 is the better choice, but I think the cam, heads, and intake would support a well tuned 4150. Any recommendations on the best carb to use. Also, I have a Chevy 461 intake, would this be a better intake than the Torker? (have the original hood on the car).

I would run a 650 Holley Double Pump dual feed, a copy of an early Z28 intake such as a Performer RPM.....this would likely work real well. What are the List numbers on the choke flange on the carbs you have? namely the 4150......ditch those intakes, use them to get a better fit for your motor.
Motor in my car, has 2.02, 1.60 valves, fully ported and fully Ported Victor JR - I worked at a speed shop for years did a lot of porting, did them in my barn. I used a standard bore 350 that was out of my brothers 67 Camaro, was covered in rust, cleaned, honed, ran a Fireball 2 480 lift, 302 duration, 10 to 1 compression, 5 speed, 3:73's and the car went 12.50's in street trim in an 85 Camaro Z28, about 3300 LBS...pulled real good at higher RPM, but a Performer RPM intake would have given it a bit better street manners, motor is now in my Corvette. I had sold the car, bought the car back in shambles 10 years later.

The carbs are both 750 cfm. The mechanical 4150 has a list of 4779-2 and a date of 0078. The vacuum 4160 has a list of 3310-4 and a date of 2402. The heads have 2.02 and 1.60 diameter valves. Just looking for a good street driver. The car has 3.70 gears and a 4 speed.

The 4779 is a double pumper and in my opinion, even jetting it down, likely will be too big for that motor on the street....I would sell them both (DP worth about 125 and 3310 worth about 115) if in good order...not that a 350 cant handle a 750, but when I hear 750 Holley Double Pumper on a 350, I am thinking stiff gears 4:11 or 4:56, bigger cam like 525 lift, 11 to 1 compression or more....a 750 will run great on most big blocks, so someone will want it
Sell them, sell the intake, get a new 650 List 4777 and a Performer RPM or similar and you will have a strong, nice running car...

Racer
The motor in my 74 is built similar to the motor dragon88 has, but has 10.5 - 1 compression, 65cc dart heads, 1.6 full roller rockers.
I use a Holley street Dominator intake and Holley street avenger 4150 675 carb.
Runs great.

get rid of the Torker and get the Performer and convert the 4160 to a 4150 using this kit and install the secondary spring kit to tune it.

Thanks for the replies, sounds like good advice. I do like the idea of upgrading the 4160 to add a secondary metering block for increased tuning and still have vacuum secondaries. Sounds like the Performer intake is a good choice rather than keeping the Torker, seams like the Torker is a bit of dud. Will do some more research on the Performer and consider a smaller carb or upgrading my 4160.
