69's Monza Red, was an acrylic lacquer.
Today, I think the way to go is base coat/clear coat. If your going for NCRS judging, or just want to stay as close as possible to original, dull down the door jams and under hood drip gutters. The idea is to have them look like lacquer, that hasn't been robbed out.

Well I suppose if ya want to keep it as original as possible, you will have to find yourself some acrylic lacquer. No clear coat, not even with the metallics. Then throw in some orange peel, and some poor coverage along the bottom edges of the body panels and you got yourself a 69 corvette paint job....but these days I would go BC-CC.

Hi Dm,
Yes, the NCRS "allows" the modern paints and painting methods.
If "Flight Judging" is in your car's future, and important to you, you should REALLY buy the new '68-69 Technical Information Manual and Judging Guide', and the '8th Edition of the Corvette Judging Reference Manual' and carefully read ALL the information about paint and how it is judged, and make sure YOU and YOUR PAINTER understand it clearly.
Regards,
Alan
Lacquer is nice.

I agree with Alan. Very good advice if future judging is a concern for you. Factory appearance is the goal you're after.
