Fun Fun Fun Electical Fun Anyone?
Hi, I have several wires I need some help in identifying on my car. Its a 71 LS5 with AC. I actually have 5 wires or so and will start with the first pair. when these get identified i will move on an post the next one and so on until I am hopefully done.
First pair comes from the grommet on the passenger side wiper washer fluid supply to the passenger wiper. Two colors black and I think tan. The connector is a duel wire spade and I assume for both lines hot/gnd?

Hate to stump everyone on the first set so I am providing a better picture of the connector which is certainly a strange looking type. the black wire is connected to both spade lugs. It looks like a ground wire jumper connector? The yellow wire does not appear to be part of this connector????

found this posted elsewhere on this forum 9there are some wire color errors, but the connectors show nicely and if you can trace the wires back to the bulkhead connector, it'll help)

Turbo what year is that wiring diagram from? There is a TCS solenoid that matches the colors but I am not aware of a TCS solenoid on a 71 LS5??????

I bet its the TCS but I am not sure will need to investigate further unless some one can confirm that 1971 454 LS5 with Rochester and 4 speed had indeed TCS.......

Hi 71,
The 71 cars have a 1 year only system called Combined Emission Control system, (CEC). The TCS was used in 70 and 72 and had a few different parts.
CEC consists of:
vacuum/electric solenoid mounted on front of the carb
delay relay mounted on firewall
reversing relay mounted on firewall
temperature sensor mounted in right side cylinder head
switch mounted in transmission that signals when transmission is in 3rd and 4th gears.
associated wiring is part of the engine harness.
Regards,
Alan

Hi jnb,
The problem is..... the category would have to be "1971, Coupe, Base Engine, Radio, RWL tires".
Anything else and I'd be lost.
Regards,
Alan

Thanks Alan and Duff!
Man that solenoid is but ugly! I am glad mine is long gone! I am all for original stuff but will not be spending any time or money on trying to configure that mess back into the car.
Looks like I will not be needing that connector anymore I will bundle it up and hid it somewhere.
Duff I just might be contacting you to trace down something but I think this thread is just way too much fun to do privately so on to the next wire!
This wire comes from the harness where the large gauge green AC line comes from as seen in the picture. This Orange line is the same large gauge indicating its a higher current line like a motor? I have two theories one its the blower step high speed line as indicated in my book/schematic or connected to the relay on the dash as I appear to be missing a line on that unit. The picture showed the relay out and all the lines to it with numbers so I can re-install the same way.
