Default Frame's Done

I managed to get quite a bit of time in on the '79 project frame, over the last couple weeks, and I'm quite happy with the results. Here are some pictures of the REAL bad areas and the finished project. The PO had used a very hard body filler on half the bottom of the drive side frame rail as well as around a big hole (seen) at the #2 body mount. I cut out all the bad areas and welded in all new metal and rebuilt the inside boxes at the rear wheel mounts as well. Not perfect but acceptable to me as it's not a rare nor garage queen car. A nice driver is what I'm after with a strong frame.

As I said, not perfect or professional but 500% better then what I had to deal with. Hopefully I'll be able to get working on the suspension in a couple weeks...

Looks like you had to do alot of work getting the frame back in shape. It really looks good. Considering where you are, geographically, I suppose the condition of the frame was par f/ the course. My hat is off to the guys in the cold climates who restore these 'Vettes. The work that has to be done is unreal, but you guys seem to get it done and get it done well. I grew up in New York, not upstate, but just the same, the salt and cinder on the road along w/ the cold, wet weather beats a car to death. I almost feel guilty of cheating since I've lived in Texas and get older cars w/o any rust at all. Good luck w/ your Corvette. Will be watching f/ more progress. And again, my hat's off to you.

I would have been writing a check for a new frame.

Thanks guys, for the support. Sometimes you don't know what kind of response you'll get here.
I was going to get a frame from Texas, but with my job ending this month, I figured I'd tackle the frame and save a few bucks.

I'll post more later on when I start the rebuild process. I'll have lots of time..

Wow, you did a great job! I know I would have never undertaken that amt of repair.

WOW, that frame was pretty rough, lots of work! Mine was a bit worse, so I bought a partially finished chassis. I took it almost all back down to make it the way I want and am almost to a roller. I just found ONE soft spot on the side of the frame rail just in front of the #3 body mount.

How'd the patching go? What size material did you use? I'll be tackling it soon.

Great job

It think it's just a well you didn't stick it in an acid bath, it may have dissolved altogether. Some of that metal you didn't replace looked
very thin. You've done well to be able to even weld it, without it just melting away.
