1978 Courtesy timer location ????
I finally got out to my car to try to get to the timer for my courtesy light . I removed the interior of the glovebox . Nothing , I found nothing that resembles the timer anywhere behind there . WTF , I'm miffed . It looked so easy in the pics someone posted for me . This is typical for the way things go for me . I also took out the air duct on the passenger side .

On my '79 its right there where you described. I believe that it is orange in color and taped along the inner right side of the dash pillar. Maybe yours was removed?
I'll take a pic if you want...

A pic would be nice . I don't think it was removed because the delay worked up until the lights would not turn off . I will look a little harder tomorrow but the pic would help greatly .

On my 78 it is accessed by removing the glove box interior and it was on the right hand side on the pillar. It is a plastic box about 1.5 inches wide by 2 inches tall and about .5 inches thick if memory serves me correctly. At least gives you an idea of the size and location. I have no pictures when I replaced the circuit board inside the box.

I am going to reach in there tomorrow and see if i can feel it . It is definitely not visible when you open up the glove box . Is the timer taped to the pillar or screwed down . I don't think I can do the job if it is screwed down . I really want to get this done . I am very frustrated . I am not the greatest at doing stuff but I thought I could handle this job . Thanks everybody .

On my '80 it is behind the glove box as well- orange plastic box about the size/shape of a deck of cards. Pretty hard to miss (unless of course the PO removed it). Good luck.

Went behind the glovebox this morning again . I felt around to the right of the glovebox and also by the a pillar , nothing . It has to be there because the courtesy feature worked until it started giving me a problem . I am gonna keep looking . I don't want to have to bring the car to a mechanic for this .

I have all the bulbs out and let the car sit overnight and the battery did not drain so that's a plus . Started right up . When I removed the fuse the power antenna did not work .

Been trying to find my courtesy timer too,, Hadn't thought about taking the glove box out,, well I took it out and I found the timer, it had been disconnected and the connector was beside it.. Plugged it in and it works perfect.. also found a small round blue thing towards the back that says flasher on it.. I have no idea what it's for..

Initially GM had plans to put the timer behind the speedo tach housing.. you can view a picture of this in the Assembly manual on page 506 or section 12l sheet 9.
I've never seen a car with one back there.. they have all been located behind the glove box. On the 80 we just installed a dash pad in the timer was way around the corner and only visible if you looked from under the dash pad.
Here is the 80 showing you in the right hand corner.
