My New 72 Coupe
Sold my C6 and finally got something that I have always wanted, a chrome bumper C3. Not that I didn't love the C6, just wanted one that I could completely work on myself. I love the curves of the C3, absolutely perfect! Though my wife doesn't know it now, but in the future will come a C2 as well.
So it's a 72 , 454 4 speed no air all original bright yellow with black interior coupe. The paint is not original as it was born Steel Cities Gray, which one day I plan to return. It's not cosmetically perfect, but at 5 to 10 feet it looks stunning. I already replaced little things here and there. Just did a front end suspension rebuild and will now have to deal with a leaking oil pan, which isn't all that hard. I also now see my L/H grille is crooked, that's also for another weekend.
A few photos for now, didn't take any of the engine compartment or interior. Which is just a clean as the exterior.

Congratulations, I did a similar thing, except I kept my ZR1. I bought this 1971 LS5 with auto, air and PW's. 54,000 miles and matching numbers. Mine started life as a blue exterior and was painted red. It could use new paint and that will be a winter project, but I am going to keep it red.

Mine had pipes on the side at some point in it's life. Currently the rear valance is already filled with the exhaust pointing down. So I need to correct this or add side pipes. Before I spend $2,600 on side pipes I want to see if I can live with them.

That's a VERY nice looking 72. I bet it's quite a nice up-grade from your former C-6.
The yellow looks terrific but I think the SCG is even more striking!

So far as covers, I've got fiberglass covers with a big block, and have had no heat issues with the paint, even after cruising it for a few hours. You might check the fitment of the exhaust to the cover, or try putting some insulation in the gap where you are having issues. Chrome covers would be nice, but the cost is outrageous...

I installed the pipes and purchased them as a kit from CA, like yours mine had had side exhaust in an earlier life. I went with the fiberglass covers, but I'm changing to the OEM reproduction. I've spent about two weeks now painting and repainting these covers and after a short drive the heat gets to them. So, I"m going to bite the bullet and get the new covers. They are loud, but I love the sound and it makes you feel like you are really driving around in a big block Corvette. The only heat issue has been to the paint on the pipes.

Beautiful car, RAT. Like Alan, I prefer the SCG hue for various reasons but if you're going to cruise in a yellow car, that one certainly fills the desire, very well.
Gorgeous red car, too. Dontcha just love fine examples of chrome bumper C3's...!

Steel city gray always generates admiring looks from savvy Corvette guys but yellow and red C3's make just about everybody smile. Don't get me wrong, I really like SCG. It's very classy. It's just not a hotrod color that makes people stop and take a second look.

Looks like that car was repainted Corvette Millenium Yellow. Nice color. Car is a "keeper"!
