Your thread was getting a post every couple minutes last nite. I posted the text. Then by the time i got pics in it was 3 or 4 from the newest.

I agree with BrianKeery, you have gone this far and doing such a beautiful job at it, cut the convertible lid out and fix that. I feel that you will really regret it later, if you don't do it. Lou.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?
I have a question: When I finish the tail light clip I want to go to the front of the car and finish it. Am I wrong in thinking that the "DECK LID RE-DO" will not affect any other area of the car once I start cutting it free? Won't I still be able to drive the car during the sanding/reshaping the opening and the edges of the lid? (I really don't want it sitting in the garage more than 2 weeks at a time/I've already passed that limit....that's why I switched to the rear panel/restart the clock...LOL!)
Here's my reasoning: I do not know when the PTSD will disable me again and for how many months....so I'm trying to finish the front and rear while I am able. The front end was only supposed to take two weeks, but I wanted to add in the fiberglass bumper "lip" since Derek was already working on a repair panel. The rear clip is moving along well.
Not even the single Bubba-gene that I inherited will go along with that idea!

From the way you described it, you run the cut-off wheel around the wdges of the hatch with a little finesse in the round corners and the hatch is back in business. Sounds like most of the finish work will be sanding the filler that was added back down till it is gone. And from the looks of it you have a pretty good touch with the cut off wheel.

Personally Tony, I think the front and rear are enough of a bite. But thats's me. You know what is under the deck, so master the nose and tail, then when you can stand back and admire your work, tackle the deck. JMHO

Agreed, it's easy to get caught up in the build and forget what you have to deal with my friend. It's about the journey, not the destination. You know your body, so enjoy the fruits of your labour......you'll get to all of it eventually.

The biggest drawback to waiting is paint. IF the deck is going to be done eventually....
it would need to be done before final prep & paint.
DAMN! Another fly in the ointment!

basically what i said a page or 2 ago. you are repainting the deck lid anyway. on the other hand, paint looks pretty good as is. black matches pretty good. you could shoot the 2 ends with less than a quart and do the whole paint job later. i started waxing the nose mold last night. lemme stop typing and hit it again.

I get it!
If I finish the "nose" mod first......then I should prepare the front cap for painting (I already had the hood repainted).......then have the cap painted!
If I finish the rear mod first.....I should still be able to drive the car while I "cut the deck lid aloose".......then have it painted from the door jambs to the tail lights!
OR.....learn how to paint!
But first I need to pick up some fiberglass supplies today and attach that tail light clip!

Vette Panel Adhesive. Not resin. Not epoxy. Search this forum there is a lot of info on it and using it.

I re-read some of Dub's threads related to bonding panels ontp older cars.
He suggested NOT to use strips cut off the car as new bonding strips because they have too many uneven areas and too much contamination over the decades.
I also copied his info as to which fillers to use on horizontal and vertical repairs.
I also would have made a mistake at the bottom edge of the fenders which would cause a crack at the seam later on......
WHEW!

I am new to this too. I wasn't giving answers, I was giving questions it needed to be asked.

I wouldn't have known any better unless I did some research because of your input!
I'm getting ready to run a few errands and pick up fiberglass supplies....will be back in a few hours.

Ok, send DUB a PM and ask him the best cloth and resin for fabbing new bond strips. ok, the nose. how are you doing the side pieces? cutting them out of the fenders and bonding the lip in it's place? or grinding the lip down till it is the right thickness and attaching it to the existing fender? i think the second way will be much easier. first way a touch more authentic, but it'll be mostly hidden under the bumper anyway. do you want the whole thing in 1 piece? or the front section and the 2 sides? and the grille openings on the side. attached to the bumper lip or separate? and BTW: POST NUMBER 2000!!
