Default Have you guys ever seen a licence plate like this where you live?

Hello All,

Spotted this plate this morning leaving the office, it was on a new Tesla. Do you guys have anything similar where you live to denote "clean vehicles"? Just curious.

Yes. Been around for decades in Indiana. You can put the tree hugger plate on anything from a Prius to a to a 1970 Cadillac with smoke pouring out the tail pipes as you drive.

The enviro plate was just the beginning. We now have probably 100+ plates ranging from gay kids, freemason, teachers, nurses, every college and even one celebrating your African heritage. There was even one with Garfield the Cat on it for a while.

Our goal is to remain as non-green as humanly possible. I'd drive a Hummer if they weren't so unbelievably ugly.

Wife and I refused a Prius at the rental car place in California. They gave us one of the zillion SUVs no one wanted.

I parked the 68 in a spot marked "Alternative Fuel Vehicles" a couple weeks ago. When someone pointed it out I simply looked at them and said "I'm burning premium."

Exactly. We all know that oil is evil. We should all do our best to get rid of it as quickly as possible.

Yep, and all fossil fuels. We have so much natural gas in Canada we can't get rid of it. We have to put it somewhere.

I have seen those plates recently. I don't know what purpose they serve. I guess it does keep the green-weenies happy. I didn't hug my maple tree today. It seems to grow just fine without hugs.

I average 250 nights a year in a hotel somewhere- and I always have a rental car. The company reserves compacts, but I beg and plead for something bigger- I usually ask for something nobody wants because it uses too much gas. Works about 75% of the time too- bigger car at the compact rate.

If you leave the Tesla exposed to the elements on a super cold Ontario January night, wonder how that battery is going to work.

Don't know about Lithium Ion batteries, but Nickel Cadmium will be very weak at sub-zero Fahrenheit temps. I think NiCads will be damaged at subzero Fahrenheit temps. I work with some NiCads and the manufacturer said they must never be allowed to go below 32 degrees F. Don't know about Lithium batteries.

NiCads still exist? I remember using them in an 8-Track tape player back when I was kid...memory effect and all. I think they had a black cat jumping through a number 9.

I always wondered about that, we can go for weeks here in January where its -38c,
My Detroit iron will start every time and sit out all winter , blow hot air out of the heater when you need it. I'm still not sold on electric vehicles...who wants to hum up to the traffic lights in an electric Vette?

Those Tesla S's are beautiful and faaaaast. In Silicon Valley you see quite a few. You probably know they are built in Fremont at the old NUMMI plant. Formerly a GM plant (since 1962, I think), that's where my Oldsey (65 442) was built.
I have offered some advice to their IT people. I may work for them one day.
No deals; I already asked.

Green plates used to mean something else, to signify a certain criminal...google it. I have a new 72 plate for my car with 5 digits.

Yes, to hell with that environment that we all require to live - you show those tree-huggers.
