Pace Car Spoiler or not to Pace Car Spoiler
I keep contemplating whether I want to purchase pace car style front and rear spoilers for the 1979. Not that a '79 is actually "valuable" yet, but out of curiosity does having the pace car spoilers add any value to the car.

To me, it was a matter of personal preference. I bought my '74 in 1977 and when the 1978 Pace Car Edition came out I ordered the front spoiler from the factory. Back in the late 70's when I was in my late 30's and I drove much faster than I do now; the front end got a little "light" at speeds over 120 mph. The new spoiler took care of it.

Yes, you have to put one on now, it will look cool and confuse people as to what year the car really is.
Yes, do it.

I looked at about 50 pictures of 79's with and without spoilers when I had mine painted. I opted for a rear spoiler on mine, and love it. I don't think it adds any value at all. Eventually I'd like to add the front one. The rear one came off a wrecked in front parts car.

Thanks!
Original colour, but a repaint a year or so before I bought it.
Didn't have the hood stripe applied, but I have it in a box somewhere.
T-Tops were painted dark like the bottom, but I use the glass ones 90% of the time now.
The stock pace car rear spoiler (if i recall correctly) did NOT have a rounded "cut out" relief for the gas door. The one on my car does have a slight "cut out" for the gas door. All depends on the manufacturer I guess.
But really, who cares. Ya cant tell it is or isn't there at 65mph on the highway. The front lip, some are 3 pieces. Some are a 1 piece unit like mine, which I'd imagine are a it harder for a DIY to install it.
I'm thinking stainless sidepipes may be in the future. They look good, but I think my calves would pay the price

I like them. I think the front and rear of the 74 through 79 cars look like they are missing something. The spoilers make them look complete and a bit more aggressive. That's just my opinion which may be completely contrary to what others like. It's your car, If you like them, put them on.
On my 75 Vert I'm putting on the front spoiler, it has an 80-82 rear bumper already, and I am adding an L88 hood with functional air chamber. I'd love to have a 73 front bumper with the center grill also. They are all Corvette parts, just from different years. It's fun confusing people too!

My wife and I were dating back in the fall of '78, when she ordered her '79. I was working the night shift back then, sleeping during the day, and since the dealer was a friend of her family, she didn't think it was necessary for me to go with her the day she placed the order. A couple of weeks later, I thought of the spoilers, and asked her if she had ordered the spoilers. She said she didn't remember....turns out she didn't.
