My '81's Alternator light started glowing dimly last Friday. Removed and took it to NAPA for a bench test. NAPA test said it was fine. Reinstalled and went to Advanced Auto Parts where they did a complete charging system test. Again, test showed everything was fine, but I did have a 2.01 amp drain. I realized about an hour later, doors were open during test and four light bulbs were on which equaled a 2 amp drain.Doh
Searched some more on CorvetteForum and read all the Dim Alternator Threads and how testing rarely shows the problem. Every thread pointed to Alternator being bad in some way(Diodes usually). Installed new alternator from local Savage KOI and guess what, NO MORE DIM ALTERNATOR LIGHT!

did you keep the original alt. to rebuild??? $10.00 worth of parts would of fixed it.

Yes I did keep it. It's not the original, but it is a DelcoRemy with the 70 amp output like the original. So at least now I have two.
