Default Question About My 1977 Stingray.

I purchased a 1977 vette this summer that had been repainted about 10 years ago, and it has no emblems on either the fenders or on the hood (it's an L-48). I've noticed, and admired, that some other corvettes of the same year DO have these emblems on them and I'm curious to know whether or not mine should too. I want to keep it as original, or at least original looking, as I can (can't help that the previous owner repainted it). Would love some confirmation on this! Thanks.

Hello,

Welcome to the best year ever !

The '77's are not " Stingrays " technically speaking as they dropped that moniker for 1977 so no Stingray emblems on the fenders. But it's back for 2014's which seems odd to me.

The L-48's never had emblems from the factory, the ones you see are after market add on's. L-82's came with the L-82 emblem as part of the package.

So to keep yours stock, no emblems.

Of course you can whatever you like, I left mine alone,

Happy Motoring,
Frank

You probably saw cars where the owners just added the emblems. Not an uncommon add-on, but the '76s were the last Stingray. If you are interested in an original look, don't put them on.

All '77s had flags on the nose and the gas door. Early '77s had no emblems on the fenders but should have an alarm key hole on the drivers fender to control the alarm. Later and most '77s had flags on the fenders and the alarm was controlled from the drivers door key hole. L48s had no emblems on the hood. L82s got the hood emblems. Anything could have been deleted or added since the car was originally built. mike...

Good to know! Thanks for the quick responses. Myoriginal77, is it wrong for me to call it a 1977 stingray, I always thought they were considered one, being sort of the middle to end of c3's. I thought they just dropped the stingray emblem and started adding the flags... A little disappointing if they aren't :/ I know the 77 was the last year of that "shark" body style and the sugar-scoop roofing. -Thanks Mike, is there any way of knowing if my car was an earlier or later 77?

And sorry for not making my self clear for Frank and Vettebuyer, I never planned on adding the "stingray" logo's I was certain those wouldn't be original. Just was wondering about the flags.

The only way to compare yours to mine is to have the last six numbers from the VIN. Mine is 441449. There might be someone that knows the approx. VIN numbers of the changes. I do not. Early '77 in pic.. mike...

Call it whatever you want. The only ones that will say anything diff are nitpicking knowitalls that want to feel self righteous.
So it wasn't badged a stingray. How much diff is it from the year before that was?
It's your car don't let anyone belittle it for some piece of $2 pot metal.

To mirror what others have said - it is very likely that there were no emblems on the hood or fenders if it was an early to mid production 77 L-48. I am not sure where in the production run they added the fender emblems. If you prefer the look of them emblems but don't want to drill holes, you can shave the mounting posts off of the emblems and attach them with 3m body molding tape.

77s do have black painted windshield trim, other then that and the emblems/alarm key hole they look no different from 75-77 externally.

Fwiw all C3s are stingrays to me.

Mine came with no flags but I really like the look so I got a new set and shaved the pins off and did the adhesive , also added the L-48 to the hood. If I want to return it to stock I can remove them! But I got to get a set for my pal Sharkwagon, people think he's a '76 ! It's never good to lie about your age!! Funny thing is most people go " Oh wow !! An L-48" LOL!
