Default NCRS Regional Flight judging round two

I decided to register my 69 again today for a second round of flight judging at the Kissimmee regional in January.

I top flighted my car there 2 years ago. I spent alot of time working out the kinks in my operations checklist and last year I signed up for a Performance Verification and Flight Judging without knowing that I couldnt do both. I was 100% operational so ended up going for the PV which I passed.

Luckily, I haven't had to do much to my car the past year, so figured I will give it another clean up to get a years worth of grime off the undercarriage and engine and try my luck for a higher score.

I now have repro bias plys (2 months of driving on them ate up the bushings in my front suspension...I use 245/60 redlines daily), a properly dated 7029215, correctly installed headrests, carpet plugs, dated original jack and will pick up some other random points.

If I can get a raw score of 97% without driving points I will enter the car for National Flight Judging and try to get a Duntov Award.

Not too bad for a car that I have driven the **** out of for the past 2 1/2 years and use daily in the cooler weather.

Sorry if I am boring you non ncrs types...but the NCRS message board really bores me to death. It has some great info, but nobody that can joke around, etc. At 32, I am without question one of the youngest people at any NCRS event. I cant tell you how many people have told me my father has a beautiful vette. I am passionate about my vettes though, so I dont let it bother me.

Wish me luck.

Goodluck Gary! Kansas City will be right around the corner before you know it.

You can always post pictures, I won't mind.

I'm also 32, and the Technical Discussion Board needs to be appreciated for exactly that, NCRS technical discussions.

Congratulations on passing the Performance Verification test! That's not an easy task to accomplish.

Gary

I try to get to the Kissimmiee event each year and come down from Myrtle Beach. I always enjoy it.

So good luck with the quest for the Duntov. Drop us a note if we can help with some NCRS prep type question.

I have a car that has been repainted and has new carpeting, but is really not restored. I have no intention of replacing any of my original parts with shiny new replacements, so flight judging is a challenge for me. I lose lots of points for the condition of my original components. My engine compartment has been lightly cleaned, but the engine has never been apart. I changed the leaky original gm valve cover gaskets. Working smog pump still in place. This would be easy to accomplish if I called ecklers and ordered a bunch of new repro stuff, but I have no interest in going that route.

Good luck!

I have a 70 that just squeeked out a Chapter TF (94.3). It's a driver, fix and repair as needed. I'll work on the judging sheets this winter and shoot for a PV or Regional next year.

Hi Gary,
I'm glad to hear you're continuing on with your 69.
It appears to be a VERY nice car and deserves to be shown more, AND be acknowledged for what a serious car it is.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

G'day Gary,
Well done with the PV award and hope you achieve your top flight.

I love the colour combo, but then I maybe al little biased.

While I acknowledge and apreciate the efforts of NCRS, I detest the effects that they
have had on the affordability of corvette parts! I have read posts on CF of people
paying $150 for three 1/4" bolts. This sort of stupidity results in vendors then pushing
up their prices because they can see that people will pay crazy prices for parts just to
achieve some award that the bulk of corvette owners don't give two hoots about,
because all they want to do is keep their pride and joy running, but not at the expense of bankruptcy.

Last I heard, being a member of NCRS, judging and buying three bolts for $150 are each optional and up to the individual.

I just buy regular bolts at 50 cents each and enjoy the other two activities.

Edit: I don't know of ANY NCRS member that has/would pay $150 for a few bolts if he understands how the judging works.

Gary, nice car! Reading your first post, where did you get your 245-60 tires? That's the size I have on my 69 and after being on the car since the early 80's, it's time to replace them.

Diamondback is the only place with 245 redlines. They are BF Goodrich TA. Great looking sidewalls because they have no marks or writing.

I know plenty of them! For example the tri power carb bolts that I witnessed sell for three hundred for two in Carlisle. Or the WB alternator bolts that sold from 100 to 200 hundred. It wasn't for the judging it's for the correctness of their cars. Seems to me that when a original parts prices climb upwards, a new repo part will not be far behind. Which in most cases the repo part will sell for much less (usually not 100% correct) for the non judging persons cars. IMO

Gary, I'm sure your car will do great, not much you can do about the condition deducts if you keep the original parts on the car, but that would be my approach as well!

WB
