are these things really necessary. before I go fabing up a new pair?

The clip holds the glass in place when both windows are up and one door is closed... when you shut the opposite door...it prevents the glass from being pushed out of its channel by air pressure...good luck!

Also, if you are cruising at 75 mph and try to roll the window up, the glass is pulled outward, and tries to go outside the rubber channel.
