Default Chrome Center Trim Plate for `82 Alloy Wheels?

My `82 has the original alloy wheels, but the previous owner replaced the chromed-plastic center caps with chromed steel `knock-off' style center caps which screw on and look nice. However, it is the only non-original part of the car and I want to buy the original caps -- however, I notice in stock photos that there appears to be a chrome center plate that fits over the lugs and looks affixed in place with the (5) lug nuts. The small OE center cap then seems to mate on top of hub, and appears one with the center ring. Mine are missing the center trim plates that appear in the photos and I've had no luck searching/finding them on the web. There are plenty of references to the rally wheel trim rings/center cap, but the center trim plate I am referencing is unrelated to the rally wheel's trim ring/cap design.

It would be greatly appreciated if anyone could point me in the right direction.

I am pretty sure all you need is the center caps. I got mine from Zip-Corvette.

Can you provide pictures of these plates? I have a friend that had a 82 and his wheels looked like mine.

Post the "stock" photo you have found. There are no chrome center plates on any YJ8 aluminum wheels. Nothing more than an aluminum wheel, five lug nuts, and a center cap.

My guess is you have aftermarket cones and spinners on your wheels. Vendors still sell these so you might find pics on their sites.

So, I guess I'm still up in the air. Here are (3) photos. 1.) a Vette from the Corvette Forum drivability sticky - doesn't it look like there is more going on in the center of the wheel than just the cap? Isn't there a chrome center trim plate? I see this on most `82 pics w/ aluminum wheels. 2.) My car (happy wife... happy life) with the `knock offs'. They look great since I steel-wooled them, but moving back to everything normal after a new paint job in the Spring. 3.) Stock photo of the center cone caps.

Let me know, anyone - is there a center chrome trim ring as seems to appear in the nice looking silver 82's wheel?

I see what you mean in the first photo, It does look there's a plate or ring of some kind on top of the wheel surface. Do you have the AIM for '82? If there's a separate trim ring, it should show it.

I do not. I'm not sure there is any type of "plate" in the pics of the blue car.

Lakeside: keep the driver of the red car.

The silver cones shown in the photo are correct for `82. I have the original brochure.

Caps or cones? Caps are stock;

Cones are aftermarket.

Tom, you're them an - thank you and congrats on you're sweet looking car. I shade of blue is classy.
About the illusional plate, it must be the angle of the wheel design because I see" it.
Again, thanks

No problem Dave, and thanks for the kind comments, I do like the Silver/Blue, it is a neat color.
Sometimes we all see things that are not there
But I must say, that your wife is much prettier than our 82's ever will be, and she looks great behind the wheel. That's what life is all about, enjoy.

Mike, did not pull the cap off of mine, but it looks to be 3 3/16" or 3 1/4"
I estimated measuring the cap in place and also measured an old Corvette spinner to get those measurements. Hope this helps........Tom
