Default 1974 Vintage Air Complete!!

I Finished my Vintage Air conversion last week. One thing is for sure. I should have done this many, Many years ago. Here's a few Quick pics of the transformation. The hardest part was removing the old system intact.

That should make the Texas summers a little more bearable. The Army just moved me from El Paso after five years. I was very glad my air conditioner worked well.

You MAY have to add an electric pusher fan to the evaporator....wire the fan relay to the A/C compressor clutch so the fan will come on when the compressor is running (if you want cold air in stop&go traffic)

Just a suggestion/may not be necessary.

Did you have to get extra duct hosing. Mine is all very short and not enough of it. So far that has been the only issue I have run into.

You mean the condenser Right? I thought about it but so far even sitting in my driveway the system seems to be keeping up. I simulated driving it with a High speed fan on and off in front of the condenser or front of car . When I turn the fan off it does decrease performance but not really enough to add a electric fan right away.

Had plenty of hose to work with. In Fact I had plenty left over of the both sizes they sent.I did cut them to the exact length or maybe even a little shorter from what their instructions recommend .

VintageAir uses two 5/8" heater hoses. Where did you get the 5/8" fitting for the water pump? Can't find a long shank one around here...

I don't exactly recall where I got the two fittings from. I already had them installed since I switched to CoolFlex hoses a few years back. I want to say The hardware store but definitely not sure.

Nice job Red! How long did it take you to complete? I am thinking of doing the same for my 74 but not sure if I have the patience for a long project. Cheers!

I'm installing one in my 70. I have yet to close out the vertical drivers and passenger side dashs...and of course mate up the interior hoses. The plumbing for the engine compartment has to be finished also.

It took me a weekend!! The hardest part IMO, was taking the old system out intact since I thought I was going to salvage something of value!! When I sum it all up i would actually rate this project as almost "Fun"!!! not hard at all. the instructions are pretty much straight forward... but i just remembered one more thing the other Almost hard part was running the Ducts"... But not overly difficult either... you should try to do it. Thanks!!! BTW once I finished the installation and charged it up , I decided to do a frame off Resto/mod. and disassembled it all off in November 15Th of 2013.. I just put it the main components back in and It was even easier the second time around!!!....... Thanks!!!!

Did you ever find the need for a pusher fan......or, is the radiator cooling well even with the condenser (my streetrod truck began overheating when I installed the condenser/I needed a pusher)

No, not with the old Engine. Im In the middle of a Resto/Mod on this car. I will see what it does with the New ZZ5 once I charge the system. I currently have upgraded the radiator to a Aluminim Dewitts with dual fans and they seem to pull better than my old clutch fan!!
