I need Help about the location of VIN Number on my Corvette 1980
Hi,
I have recently bought 1980 Corvette and the customs are unable to find the VIN number of the car. They couldn't find behind the windshield or any sticker on the vehicle.
Could you help me by telling me if it can be located somewhere else, and does anyone knows where the VIN is printed on the chassis, because searching for the VIN without knowing exactly where the VIN is located will take time and it's difficult to search.
Hope someone can help.
Thanks.

First...what is the customs? Some type of automotive restoration shop? Or...are you referring to U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Too often posters unfamiliar with the board post shorthand references that are not understood.

VIN derivatives are also located on the transmission, engine and frame.

Should be at the bottom of the windshield post on the driver's side. Or, open the driver's side door and look at the door edge. Should find it on the sticker.

Thanks for your reply. Customs means U.S. Customs and Border Protection. I have bought this car online, now in my country's customs wants to match the VIN number in the docs to the VIN on the car it self but the VIN sticker cannot be found. They looked everywhere and they couldn't find it. If you have the same car, could you send me a photo where exactly it's located?
Thanks.

Burning Brakes
Hi we have a 79 also a recent purchase, I had a hard time locating mine, when I did it was in fact on the drivers side windshield post as mentioned. It had darkened up considerably to match the post not to mention the windshield had dis colored in that area as we'll. So assuming it's the same on the 80, tell them to look real good with a flashlight.

The complete VIN should be on the car in two places: First is the actual VIN plate on the driver's windshield post and visible from outside the car.
Second is the vehicle certification sticker on the driver's door.
The original engine, transmission, and frame are stamped with VIN derivitives, not complete VINs.
For the 1980 models, the VIN format will be 1Z878AS4xxxxx. The second 8 could also be a 6 or an H, depending upon the original engine installed. xxxxx will be the consecutive unit number.

What makes me confused is if the VIN is not there, how did the customs in the US approved sending the car out side the US! They must compare the VIN from the docs and the VIn printed on the car.. Do you know where usually the VIN printed on the chassis?
Thanks.

Thanks.. If this is where the VIN should be located then it must be removed because it's not there!

Guys,
I was told by the seller that the VIN is located under the hood by the firewall below the windshield.
I would appreciate if Anyone has 1980 corvette can check and snap a photo and share it here. I need to send it to the person in Customs to verify the VIN number.
Thanks.

The seller is wrong unless a state issued replacement VIN has been installed. Did the seller tell you the original VIN plate on the driver's windshield post as depicted in the earlier posts above has been removed in the past and replaced?
