rack & pinion
Hello;
Looking for information. I have a C3 ,350,automatic. I don't like the way it steers. It wants to wonder at high speeds. I put a new steering box in, but this didn't seem to take care of the problem. I am thinking of changing to a rack and pinion add on. before I do is there anything I should check with the box. It was put in following instructions.
Also is there anyone who has changed to the rack and pinion system. Did it make any difference ? Would you do it again ?
I would appreciate any and all comments.
Thank You, Moe ski

The rack and pinion steering is a great upgrade that helps with the smoothness of steering and bump steer. Wondering at high speeds may be more of an alignment issue.

Borgeson...love it. R & P is a little more involved but a local shop put one on a 81 the other day and it bolted right up and works great. Cost more as well. Good luck. just my $.02.

Best mod I ever made. Absolutely tight. Zero slop. R&P, look for steeroids. They are a forum vendor .
Search rack and pinion or steeroids here on the forum. Lots of threads.

if I was going to do a rack, go with the flamming river set up, two reasons uses a cradle system for mounting the rack, no flexing, 2nd uses a viarable speed pump to run it, down side its expensive, I have a borgeson set up I just got gunna try that, then down the road try the rack set up, but im sure from what I heard I will love the borg set up.

streering box not the only component.
Three things make for a good driving vett.
Front components: box, tie rods, ball jointd,
Rear components: strut rods, TA assembly,
Alignment.
RnP or Borgeson units just gives better steering ratios and new components that leak less.

check all front end parts but if its still wandering after a new steering box, your problem is probably in the rear end. if there is any movement back there from worn componets the car will "rear steer" on you.
and a 4 wheel alignment by some one who works on corvettes is critical, skip the local tire shop on this one.
i put the steeroids set up in my vette and i liked it, i also had to shim the power steering pump to reduce the pressure but that was no big deal/
