No round key - how to get spare tire?
I have a 1971 Stingray with no round key, only the square one. Square on won't open the lock to access the spare tire.
What options do I have?

remove the bracket/bolt by removing bolts number 16 using the pictures from DonnieP73's response above and then go to the link below and look at the pictures/description to remove the lock.
works quite well.

Is the glove box locked? If not you could take the lock out and have a locksmith determine the lock number and make a key. If the glove box lock and the spare lock are original, you have a key that works without a big hassle.
If the glove box is locked, it still may be easier to get the lock out. It seems to me that is the easiest way to go. Worth a try.

I just picked my spare tire lock using the info in the link posted above. I didn't even bother to try and unbolt the hanger first. Just layed on my back and started messing around, it took about 15 minutes. I bought a set of four different dental picks off ebay for $5. Now I know exactly what I'm doing I could repeat the process in 2 minutes. FWIW- I had better luck with an L shaped dental pick instead of the round hook noted in the link.

I have the round key and and it still took a can of WD-40 and an hour of screwing around. I just leave the lock off now. The lock is just there to protect the bolt head. If I can't get to the bolt head when I have a flat - I may as well not carry that heavy spare tire.
