1972, value opinion
Hi all, I just finished (well almost) my 1970 C10 resto and now have a chance to pick up a 72 vette from my dad. The car seems solid and runs great , number matching base engine, auto, a/c, p/s. The car runs great and come with a good bit of parts (bumpers included). I pulled the kick panels and did not see any issues and I have not pulled the windshield trim. Any thoughts on the value as it sits?

No doubt the car needs work, however from my prospective the car is a decent starting point. My dad has had the car about a year, the PO starting a mild resto but had to divert funds to a MG project.
I'll snag some interior pics later today...

I may be missing something here. Does value matter? Your father owns the car. Are you possibly buying from your father? What does Dad want for the car? All things considered, it looks like it's in reasonably good shape. Grilles will be pricey if Dad doesn't have them.

Hi E D,
Why is the front clip in primer? Has it been replaced or repaired?
It may have the block it left St.Louis with but the engine compartment shows quite a few parts that had part numbers and dates on them have been replaced. Does that matter to you?
What do the chassis and running gear look like?
What does the interior look like?
Do the wiper door and headlights work?
Does it come with usable front grills?
Guess... $5000-$6000?
Regards,
Alan

Thanks for the replies guys, I am not concerned about 100 point restoration so the non oem parts are ok with me. The PO before my dad started the body work as he planned to have it painted. The vacuum system operates one of the headlights however the other canister is not holding (have a spare in the pile of parts). I don't remember seeing the grill but I will look again. The car runs great with no leaks, dad was told the engine was rebuilt but no receipts to back it up. Dad is a lifelong mechanic and is happy with the way the car runs. Price wise around 7k for the car along with all the parts.. Dad really wanted to restore the car however time and health has been a challenge for him. I will likely pick up the car and work with dad on the resto.

Did you verify that the engine numbers match?

Hi E D,
It's just fine that the replacement parts are o.k. for you.
But remember, you then have to be careful how much time and addition money you get into the car since it will have a limited up-side value.
Good Luck!

Alan

Nice C10 1970 Truck!

If you have a lot of 72 Corvette parts and frame and birdcage is good with little rust plus engine and trans numbers match, I believe 5 to 7 is a good range. If you advertised it at 4, I believe you would get a lot of calls.
Check ebay and classifieds here for parts, if you are patient, you can find good deals.
When you get the Corvette fixed up, bring it to the Greater New Orleans Corvette Club Show in Slidell in October!!!
Best of luck to you!

Thanks Mercury! The c10 was a total frame off and came out great, we had a blast at cruising the coast.
I'll take some better pics of the vette when the weather clears up...

If your dad paid 7k and you have most of the parts you'll do ok on a restoration. Looks like you've got a handle on that part by the looks of your truck. Many of the guys on this forum devalue our C3's for some reason. I've done a lot of research on this year car as I also own 1. A nicely done base coupe should bring 20-25k. Anything less and your being low balled.

Your Dad has "time and health" problems, wants $7K for it, and you apparently like/want it.
I'd say the price is spot on..considering a win/win situation for your Dad and yourself.
Have fun, post pics as you go.

I like the fact this car is in the family already and has a history.
You are not buying from an unknown.
Nothing wrong with squeezing a penny from dad though. No different when we were a little kids.
I say go for it and offer him a fair deal (7K may be fair as tokim pointed out) but not lowball him to make him lose it.
