I would like to know people's experience as to the merits of using sound proof and dual purpose heat barrier products. Any thoughts ? Thanks again John.

It would be a great decision. You'll wish you would have done it sooner. Just take your time and install it properly....do one area at a time---like the driver's side first---so you don't get overwhelmed.
OR....pay someone to install it.
As for pricing....there are similar products that vary in price....(name-brand affects pricing also....LOL)

there's so much wind noise and air leakage in these things, i think sound proofing may be a waste of money unless you want to turn it into a lexus.

I used hushmat and the install was "interesting". I agree only do small areas at a time, take your time. a roller, plenty of blades, I also used PVC end cap to help smooth it out in the inside corners. I could feel it stiffening the glass in the floor and just in and out while working on it.

Same product for me too. The biggest benefit that I enjoy is controlling the amount of heat that creeps through the firewall at the footwells. This is especially noticeable in the summer months because my car is non-AC. The cooling improvement was two-fold by routing a portion of high-heat source (exhaust) to the sides as well as the heat barrier from the Hushmat.
I also notice the sound-deadening but to a lesser degree due to the side mounted Hookers that I run.
Overall, I recommend using something more than nothing.

I used hushmat i beleive in you get what you pay for. The cockpit took me about 8 hours . It really keeps the heat out and makes the car feel more solid. Just take your time do not rush it. I turned on the tv in my shop and took my time.

Aluminum duct tape also helps you do a neat job of joining seams together (don't buy the thin stuff).

To make the noise in the cab go away is will getting hit by lighting, winning the lotto, marrying a super model, getting a leg taken off by a loin in a mall at the same time. It never going to happen.
But you can use to make it stiffer, keep more heat out and plug up any small hole that the previous owner may have done for god only knows why.
