xp 819 rear engine corvette
Hey guys, just sharing this cool link I found about a 1964 rear engine corvette concept. You can really see the C3 design in 1964. Really neat, what is your opinion?http://www.corvettes.nl/gm_prototypes/xp819/

Help please. After the XP-819 ended up with Smokey Yunick, didn't GM eventually go to Smokey and try to get the car back and/or required him to cut it up? I believe I read something by Karl Ludvigsen to that effect.

I believe this is true. The car was acutally suppose to appear last year at the Bloomington Gold show but never showed up or it did and I never saw it. Im not sure who owns the car right now or if its even in existence.

Very cool!
Not to doubt Kevin McKay, but I'm curious why the manifolds are flipped on McKay's restoration compared to this older picture.

It handled like a bumble bee with a wrecking ball tied to his butt, on a test it almost killed a seasoned driver it was shelved right then.....I heard it was cut both ways......people do build replicas

Give Kid Vette's article a read, it will explain how Kevin McKay was able to restore the original XP819.

Yep, this astonishing car is well covered in my new Corvette book, including the amazing story of its rescue and restoration.
I think the restorer didn't have access to those great photos of the car in chassis form. Otherwise he would have rebuilt it accordingly. I didn't have them either! They are awesome!
