Default Help! Radiator Drain Plug C3 1969

I was trying to drain my Radiator using the drain plug. I got a 9/16 socket on it and a back up wrench on it. I tried turning it and the drain plug seam where the plug screws into moved a little and started dripping coolant around the seam. I think I cracked the seam and created a leak. My question is can I remove the support that the radiator mount screws into without damaging anything. If I remove it I think I can get into that spot and solder it with my propane torch and repair it without removing the radiator.
Any suggestions will be helpful Thanks!

bite the bullet, pull the rad, leak on bottom? probably need to turn upside down to do a good job to get any coolant away from affected area. besides you can always do some touch up work with the rad out. T
