Well, I am still alive and back working on this car!

I noticed it has been a year since I last posted any updates. I took an eight month break from the car. To be honest, doing the body work and paint just burned me out. I had needed to paint the t-tops, headlight doors, and wiper door and frankly I just was never in the mood to drag out all the materials.

But, I am now down to just installing the interior and it will be back on the road. I got all the lights working today along with the vacuum operated devices.

Now I am pumped up and making a sprint for the finish line...LOL.

I am hoping to get the windshield, carpet and interior trim pieces installed over the long holiday weekend.

It isn't blue anymore! LOL! A whole new car! Congrats! What did you use to strip away the old paint? Your time off gave the others a chance to catch up with you.

I'm in awe of how quickly you've gotten to this point. If it was my I'd be happy to be where you are if it took me four years and I'm a stay at home housewife.

What a stunning transformation. I have to say; I'd given you up for dead, given the amount of heartache and frustration you'd gone through. But you've certainly turned a lemon into some pretty sweet looking lemonade. Congratulations, hope to see some video of her cruising during the winter when many of us are hibernating.

I crept over from the c2 forum, with one kid home sick today no progress on bodywork on my 64 (hit by a semi in June)and I needed some good reading. This may be one of the very best threads on the CF! Despite you saying you took a break anyone would have to say the progress you made is truly inspiring. I most definitely hope to see more!!!

Congratulations on your progress. It really looks great. It gives me inspiration to get the remaining work on my 1980 C3 done. Luckily mine was not nearly so much of a project (body and frame solid)... What is left is carpet, seat covers & rebuilding my seats, door panels, parking brake console cover, new weather stripping, new inside rear view mirror, AC system rebuild (new compressor, accumulator, evap rebuild kit, hoses, etc) and replace tach board...

I gotta say that what you've done in that amount of time is pretty awesome. Had you ever done a frame off restoration before this one? I ask because I did a frame off on a "non-corvette" and I learned so much that if I did it all over again, it would go smoother and quicker. Perhaps when you get some time you could share a few 'lessons learned' with the rest of us that may be doing a frame off restoration on a C3 in the future. Maybe some tips for working around trouble you had? Suggestions for what to do or what not to do?

WOW! Amazing what you did in such a short period of time. Quickest frame-off thread ever. I am in awe of the seams around the headlights. Nice work.

I have not done a frame off rebuild before, but I have built several race cars from a rack of pipe to completion. Any questions I have had about corvettes in particular have been answered here on the forum. There are some knowledgeable people that seem very willing to help.

So far I am satisfied with the results, the car is far from perfect (even though it does seem to photograph well). But it is 100x better than what I started with. At this point I am starting to pinch off the funding for this project. I just want to get it back in driving condition and enjoy it for awhile. I am trying to salvage the interior that was in the car, but it really looks like crap after doing the other work. The lower dash pieces are fine, but the rear quarters line up really badly (warped). I repaired and re-dyed the pieces as best as could be done, so I am just going to move forward like that for now. I will just start gathering interior pieces and replace that portion of the car in "phase 2".

Drove the car down and had the state inspection done today, everything worked when they did the check. I can now go get the license plate tags on Monday and start putting some miles on the car to see if anything shakes loose.

I am waiting for some door panel velcro to show up so I can install the door panels, but the rest of the interior is in. Plus I still need to put on the eyebrow trim next to the wiper door.

An amazing transformation, from ashes to a "Sight to behold"! Shows what can be done for others with the same beginnings.
