Starter grind after solenoid replaced
I had the starter off for some work I was doing else where on the car. I damaged one of the solenoid posts while I was taking the starter off.
My car is now back together and seems to be running well. I replaced the solenoid with a Delco unit from willcox. The starter is original ('71). Now I get a grind occasionally when I start it. When this happens I stick my foot out the door and rock the car a bit and then it doesn't grind again.
It doesn't seem like there are adjustments anywhere with the starter, gear, or solenoid. Looking for some advice or ideas.....
Thank you

Replacing the starter solenoid, would not have affected the operation, or alignment, to cause this.
It sounds like a starter mounting/alignment issue.
Was there a starter shim in place for the starter, that you didn't replace when you re-installed it?
Are the starter bolts snugged up tight and secure?

I know the bolts are tight, but I don't recall noticing shims. Doesn't mean they weren't there though. Sounds like I need to figure out how to properly shim and align a starter.
