72-LS5 PCV hose vs Dual Snorkel - Pic Request
Trying to run the hoses for the PCV and since it "T"s at the PCV valve and goes down to the evap-can, the hose will have to do some weird and wonderful things to get under the drivers side snorkel and then instantly back up to hit the PCV valve
I used to run a valve with a 90 fitting on the top so it was about 1-1/2 lower and cleared everything. The new (proper?) valve is straight up, then a "T" ontop of it.
Looking for pics of a stock setup to see where the hoses ended up
Thanks
M

Thanks
I'm not sure what they have going there, the 71 and back look like what is shown but the 72 definitely has the charcoal canister and the AIM shows it "Tee'd" into the PCV line.
I ended up finding a PVC with a 90deg fitting on the top and placing in onto my PCV so it comes off sideways, fits no problem but I'd still like to see how it's supposed to look

I think that's one of the ones I stumbled across before I posted. went through all my books, etc and basically that seems to be it.
The AIM shows the two lines going almost straight back along the valve cover and to a clip on the firewall, (at least on the LT1) the other sheets are somewhat vague.
My covers are slightly (very slightly) taller than stock but enough to cause the issue I guess
Here's what I ended up having to do to get it to clear the snorkel
Thanks for the help, always good to have a correct starting point before I go ahead and bubba it

Hmmm, looking at the picture I wonder if I have enough clearance to turn that around and run it on the manifold side and hide it more under the air breather.....

Greg was telling me you were having problems finding some kind of breather elbow fitting.
Was it what this thread is about - PCV Tee / elbow etc or is it on the other side up to the air cleaner ?

Hi Jerry
It was this one, not sure how the "proper" one worked but stealing the 90deg fitting off a different valve worked out (as showe above)
Thanks for looking though

I do like your setup, great idea.

Why not do the same thing Mooser did (post #5), but rotate the elbow to face toward the carb? Then the hose will run up higher on the valve cover...maybe even run the hose along the top side of the valve cover and over to the carb base.

If I was a young man and customizing my car, I would, but I'm an old guy, so I'm leaving it as is. I've looked at this setup for the past 39 years. The new owner can do what ever he/she wants.

Not meaning to change the subject, but I sure do like those valve covers. I always liked the early Vette 7 and 9 rib ones but can't use them on a late model engine with the breathers. Who makes those and I wonder if they have a small block version?

Reason I asked I was just in the process of selling and installing an original air cleaner on a friends SB '73 and was digging through a bunch of NOS grommets and hose connectors I had bought (from GM) years ago.
Didn't know what connector or part you were looking for and thought I'd see if I had one when I was visiting "my" inventory.
Actually today I saw I had a Fram Tee style PCV that was used on lot later Vette's and Chev's - but alas it is quite tall - so no good for your application.

BINGO ! Penny just dropped - hey Mooser - any chance those aftermarket valve covers are taller than the stockers ???
You could be picking up (unwanted) height there !
I just checked some old (mid 80's & '90's) FRAM and AC catalogues and the only PCV''s they list and show for early 70's BB Vette's are the short single vertical hose jobs.
71 Green - that might be one rare PCV valve - would be interested to have you check the P/N stamped into it ?

Sure would like to see a side view of that PCV - to check the height.
