Default Hood scoop ideas for an 80.

I need a scoop for my car, hood dosen't clear carb and intake. (performer rpm). I don't want an L-88 hood. I like the stinger scoop, but I don't like the narrow spear that the hood has. The front spear on the 80 hood is wider. I would take a cowl, but again I would like it to retain the 80 hood spear instead of the flat front. I have raised the center of one 80 hood I had but it didn't come out the way I wanted it to.

I was thinking of getting the stinger scoop and molding it onto my 80 hood. But would like to see how it looks on the 80 hood.

Has anyone done this and can they post a picture.

I have seen that one. On an 80 the hood spear is wider. I don't like the skinny hood spear on the 80.

You can get just the larger portion of the stinger hood without the spear and it is open on both ends to make it functional. https://www.up22.com/scoopw1.htm#SC-104

This probably what I am going to do. I would like to see one molded on an 80 hood.

I have the 7201 edle rpm manifold and 750 edl carb with a edle 14x3 open air filter assm. I did modify the flange on the air filter assm to gain 1/2" more clearance and the stock 81 hood does not hit. Your hood should be the same as a 81. Are you using a spacer between the carb and manifold? My thought is get creative with the air filter assm before shelling out lots of $ for new hood

Agreed. A low profile drop base air cleaner should allow plenty of room for your setup. Several forum members run a similar setup with success and I looking for a Performer RPM for my 80 because of that.. Check out the factory style ones for Holley and QuadraJet.

I also have the performer rpm. I never actually put the hood on with the new engine. I am going down to the gatage to put the hood on.

Well that's one problem solved. Sometimes it is right in front of you. Actually the hood was hitting the MSD box I have mounted on the firewall. It was hitting the rear rib of the hood. Took that off and it closed.
It even worked with my 4 inch dropped base air cleaner.
