In this order: Sawzall, someone really good with a cutting torch, or a medium size satchel charge.

I like option 3 best. "Sorry honey, frame is totaled. I have no choice except a new chassis, LS3 and 5 speed."

Maybe I should try the Sawzall first...

Frame goes to sand blaster Friday morning! Trailing arms took a cutting torch to get the shims out, a SawsAll to cut the bolt and a cutting disc to get the exterior portion off bolt off.

Just came across your thread today... read through it all. Glad to see this project has taken a turn for the better! Frame looks great!

Default going back together

Got the frame back from paint today. Looks great. Installed stainless gas lines, new gas tank, trailing arms, struts, and diff today. The trailing arms, struts, and diff were rebuilt by Vtech Corvette. Previous owners had put 3.80 (non-GM) in it. I opted for 3.08 which should really drop the highway rpms!

Got front springs in Thursday night. Glad that's finished. Side photo added calipers.

Those look like POP rivets but the picture (or my old eye vision) isn't that clear. Is that what you used to install them?

Yes they are pop rivets. The fiberglass goes down inside and the metal is really just a collar/cap. The rivets get very little stress.

Good work on the brackets (now see why my '68 body sits on the frame on the passenger-side!)

And it comes down to this. Actually two of these. Need for my Super T-10 tranny and they're proving rather difficult to find.

The body went back on the chassis last night.* The front coil springs are the only part of the front and rear suspension that haven’t either been replaced or professional restored.* Everything from the flywheel back to the wheels has also either been replaced or professional restored.* And after all that, the driver’s window still doesn’t work!
*
Oh well, time to get to work and make more money for the project.

Great news! How did the install go? Any snags or issues? Got a pic to share?

Happy for you,

Lee

Here's a picture. Feels really good to have a car again. Pretty scary thinking about all the little things left like getting it to run. So for now I'll just enjoy the picture.

As for the question, it went to together great! Once the bushings were all lined up, the body sat right down and didn't need any shims.
