Wow this is great. I went through a little bit of what you experienced just the other day when I discovered more than surface rust (rot in certain places, Bubba'd fixes, wiring that makes me wonder what's going on. I had to step back, breathe, realize I had a good driving car that needs some work...then proceeded to drop $200 on a bunch of little things. For now the car isn't going very far anytime soon until new body mounts are on (at least 1, 3, & 4).

Good luck, I look forward to seeing your project progress!

Default Memorial Day weekend

Saturday was a very good day. Got the radiator and cowling in, hoses attached, belts and fan on, steering column in, front sub bumper on. My dad came over to help which was great. Always good to see him.

Sunday was more frustrating than fun. Added more to the to-do list than I took off. Guess you need those days to figure stuff out. Removed AC and found I had none of the interior screws.

Now it's Monday and I'm going for progress. Found a stash of interior screws. Hope my luck continues...

Got the engine started and DROVE it the 3/4 of a mile home from my friend's shop! In my book that makes the project a success. Yesterday it was just a project that was taking too long and too much money. Today it is a success!

As for the title of this thread... I doubled my money. Financial advisors are always talking about doubling your money so it must be a good thing!

Had the hood support member which was cracked in the middle professionally reinforced and mended. Boy, you get some funny looks carrying a good across town. Then I scraped and painted the rest of the underside of the hood.

Also been working on front bumper, wiring, and all the vacuum hoses. Washed and waxed it Friday night. Forcing myself to take my time and finish it up right. Have done too much to start taking shortcuts.

Ha! I'm going to show this to my wife. She'll be laughing for days. I have the patience of a nat. Try washing your project. Shining sells as well as sex. I was sizing the garage up for some plastic explosives. Then I washed and waxed it and it looks too good to blow up. Hopefully, I get the gas leak fixed before the garage really blows.

Fuel pump doesn't leak
Headlights work
Hood on
Both horns installed
Front bumper, grills, license plate, and air dam on.

Get the windows up and I'll be able to take it for alignment!

Very cool! Replaced the harmonic balancer which had slipped. Now the engine starts and runs much smoother. It now idles by itself without me playing with gas pedal. After almost a year, it's the little things that become very cool!

Default Finished!!!

Got the suspension professional tightened & aligned today. Did my circles to seat the differential seals. Tested it out and then got it over 60mph.

Think the shifter needs a little adjustment, and the windows... Interior lights.... Passenger seat... But all the big stuff is finished!

Well I've reluctantly done everything the right way with one exception. I tried to cheat the tranny and paid $400 for minimal work. The tranny needed a complete rebuild for another $1k. Glad I did everything else the right way.

As an added bonus for my cheap stupidity, I get to take the tranny in and out while laying under the car instead of when the body was off a couple months ago.

Default done?

Well it's officially a car again. I drive it to work yesterday. Over 40 miles each way.

Last big thing left to do is the heating and air conditioning.
