Default 82 Crossfire Injection

I have an 82 with 40,000 original miles. Runs terrible on ethanol added gas. On a hot day if you shut it of for a minute or two it starts but when you put it in gear it chokes out. If run the idle up for awhile 1min or 2 it will go fine. But have had it die in the middle of intersections. Crank and pump the gas to restart.
Are these normal crossfire problems? If not what can be done?

Another thing I forgot. With the pedal to the metal at 4700 RPM it starts missfiring and looses exceleration. Thanks for those websites. I ordered one of the books.

You need to rule out the fuel pump before anything else. When you take it out and put it in turn it to the right 180 degrees - almost upside down then rotate into it's correct position - and life is good. Get a new pump-to-tank gasket - it will need it. I did not do the hyped 1985 pump upgrade and my '82 runs terrific with the stock pump.

On a stock xfire you really gain nothing by going over 4000 rpm or so with the restrictive heads and exhaust. At least that was my experience with my 84 xfire before going with new heads, cam and true dual exhaust...........and a carburetor!! Now it is an x-xfire!!

Dave V,
I agree with above. Change the fuel pump with like kind and many idle and performance problems disappear.
