what did you do to or with your C3 today?
I am setting up this thread for myself and all to share simple goings on that don't necessarily warrant individual threads.
I'm stealing this idea from the jeep-cj forum where I spend the rest of my time.

Today to I started documenting my new to me 73 vette in my new logbook dedicated to just that purpose.
I recorded all the suspension, brake, and other work that the PO had done last year.
I documented the tire information and measured and deduced the wheel specs with the help of the internet.
I ordered the entire hinge, support, and latch hardware for my hood since everything had been stripped out when they put on the stainless apron.

Took off the starter.
Dropped the bottom half of the steering.
Dropped the oil pan.
Pulled the hubs/rotors.
Pulled the valve covers.
Degreased from the bottom up and down again.
Installed a felpro 1 piece oil pan seal and new bolts.
Felpro valve cover gaskets installed.
Front bearings replaced.
Rebuilt the starter.
Replaced the fusible links. (olds ones melted to my sidepipe headers.)
and finally reattached the steering system and lubed it.
All this started last night because I wanted to change the fusible links ... everything else was a "while im here".

Balanced the pistons and reconditioned and balanced the rods. Weighed the ring, pins, locks and bearings getting ready for the crank balance.
Rounded up fasteners and installed the cam bearings.

Tightened the power steering belt, temp gauge under the hood was loose and vibrating so remounted it.
Then discovered my heater core was leaking. 75 W/A so will be inside the car job.
Who makes good cores now?

Safety Car
I drove mine over to get a two-four of Miller. Then when the cop stopped me on the way home just because he wanted to look at the car, I figured that was OK. His last words were "Geeze, that cold beer sure looks good... is that an original 427?" I think he wanted me to adopt him....

Burning Brakes
Well I already used a White Paper from Lars to performance tune my Small block 350. What I did today is carry that information over to my Club President and performance tune his 1969 Firebird 400 engine. I let my buddy lead for a bit we did timing first even though I knew that before timing an engine Dwell has to be set first and I told him this last night in an email but I let him lead at first. Dwell on a Points system ignition system effects timing. Set the Dwell First on this engine it was nominal at 30 degrees dwell. Then we went for idle timing and set it at 9 degrees after top dead at idle. Then we went for performance timing which on his engine is 38 Degrees at 2500 rpms at an altitude of 6000 Feet above sea level. we than took a vacuum gauge to his intake manifold pressure than adjusted his mixture screws on the carb we found 5.25 half turns out on each mixture screw gave us a steady 11 PSI on the intake manifold. We saw he was running a little rich before we adjusted everything to a perfect light gray on the plugs after we got done.

My friend Zoomin and I worked on our LS-5's
Carb work on the green and we put new spring bolt kit and rear shocks on the Mulsanne blue.
Best part was the test drive which included some secondaries

I took my '69 convertible to the local Cars & Coffee in Folsom, CA. Not a big turnout today because Hot August Nights is on in Reno, just about 100 miles up the hill.
That said, out of about 20 cars (Cobras, Ferraris, Maseratis, and hot rods) in addition to my '69, there was a nice orange '74 T-top, and a red '63 convertible.

When to Silver Spur, Palos Verdes, CA , featured car this month were convertibles. Great turn out 150 cars. I drove the 99 since the 77 was not running right.
Left there and went to the Automobile Driving Museum in El Segundo, CA they had a tribute to gasser's. 80 amazing gasser's. Many of them fired up and shook the ground with the kind of music only a loaded up and blown big block with open headers can make.
Had lunch with the guys. Talked over with everybody who would listen what was wrong with the 77. Overall conclusion was that it was electronic. Replaced the distributor cap and all is well. It is running great again.
It was a great day. Tomorrow if it does not rain??? Super Car Sunday in Woodland Hills featuring micro cars. I have mixed emotions we really need the rain.
