Default 1980 Distributor Service Connection/Connector

Hi All -

I have - what appears to be - a service connection/connector dangling adjacent to the distributor cap's wiring. Please see pic.

Is this connector supposed to connect to a dealer-issue only diagnostic tool?

What electrical data can be read from this port?

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Error/diagnostic codes stored on the computer. If I recall, digitial engine analyzers should have a connection for your port. Keep in mind, the 80 California cars were the first C3s to have a computer.

Appreciate the reply.

Do you know where the ECM is physically located?

The connector enables a tachometer to be hooked up without disconnecting the tach connector on the distributor. They are present on 350 cubic inch engine cars which do not have a computer. Have never seen a 305 car which has a computer, so do not know if they have the same connector.

Appreciate the replies. It was born with a 305, but 2 owners ago - was replaced with a 350 GM Crate engine. Not sure if this is the same distributor from the 305, but it makes sense this connector would be for a tach, because - after closer inspection - it looks like it's spliced into the tach connector wires.
