Default Nice throaty mufflers for a 1969 L46

I recently purchased a 1969 L46. I LOVE the car. Only thing I'm thinking about changing on it at this time is the sound level. It has OEM rear exhaust and mufflers which make it very quiet, and I'd love that great, low muscle car sound.

I think I'm past any thoughts of putting side pipes on her. Not thinking about headers, or really even changing out the exhaust pipes right now.

I believe I can get the sound I want - loud and low but not obnoxious, from just swapping out the mufflers. Want to first confirm that, and if so, would love some suggestions on muffler choices.

Thanks in advance.

Did you get a chance to hear mine? That was with Headers and Magnaflow mufflers.

I have Magnaflow's too. They're not obnoxious, but they're definitely not noticeable either. You will hear them, plenty well enough.

This is the Corvette Central N-11 system on my 70 LT-1. I love it.

Same here. Love it. Just enough sound without drowning out my co-pilot.

HA. I didn't, but even if I did - that's comparing a 427 + headers + mufflers to a 350 w/ no headers!

Anyone responding with the magnaflows or n-11 without headers and/or a big block?

I purchased a set of Flow Master Super 40 Series Delta Flow mufflers for my 1977 and they give a nice medium hum at idle, not too load on heavy throttle but very deep sounding and mellow out to the point you cannot hear them much at cruising speed. The Delta Flow design is meant to be heard at idle and under throttle but not at cruising speed.

For your model year car they would be the same as the Super 44 Delta Flow Series Mufflers. Loader would be the Series 50 Mufflers.

I looked at the Magna Flows for awhile then chose the Flow Masters when JC Whitney was having a 20 buck off sale and I got the pair of them for $160.00 bucks and free shipping which was a heck of a lot cheaper anywhere else I could have bought them for. I like to shop all the web sites before I buy for the best deals

So glad you posted.

I called Corvette central to enquire about N-11's for my 70 and they stated they did not have any for this application. I know they have the N-11's for 63 because I bought some of those for my 63.

CAn you please tell us exactly what you ordered and how well did they fit??

Thanks so much.

PS. Wanted to go Gardner but they will not sell anything but the entire kit for $800. No thanks

We're running Flowmaster 50 Deltaflows on our '77. Very nice deep, throaty sound to the car without having the interior resonating problems the 40 series have. Not overly loud at idle (much more than a stock exhaust though), but it will get loud when you get on it.

No offense to those who run Magnaflow mufflers, but I'm not a fan. They cackle during deceleration and sound like an old glasspack muffler sometimes (just my opinion guys).

Lots of videos on YouTube covering this type of thing, but very few where they actually caught the true sound of the mufflers without the microphone on the camera getting distorted. This video is spot on to how our' 77 sounds in person.

I have Magnaflows too and really like them. Pretty quiet if just loafing along but they rip if I get on it. There are times I wish for the quietest mufflers actually because when I get on it, I don't need to advertise it

I don't always run mufflers, but when I do I prefer Flowmaster 40s or 44s

1972 - 350
before sound was without "H" pipe

original cast manifolds and 2" exhaust pipes with a "H" pipe installed just after the X member into MagnaFlow mufflers

the "H" pipe removed the fluffy sound from cam overlap

Sometimes drowning out the co-pilot isn't such a bad thing.

I had the regular 40's on my 71 with hooker headers. It's got a deep drone at really low RPMS, but it is hardly noticeable once you are cruising since our transmissions are only 3 speed. I upgraded to stainless OBX w/resonators and love the sound.

Here is my newly built 70 LT-1 with the N-11. The shop just put the motor in this week. 2.5 inch GM manifolds and 2.5 inch N-11. 350 at .030 over, solid lifters, LT-1 cam 11:1 compression.

Edit: Why does photobucket always upload my stuff upside down? @!$&! Frustrating.

Walker turbo's, makes my '73 L82 sound like a Corvette should . Great idle sound and you can still hear your engine pulling and hear the transmission whine. I'm an old guy so I remember the sixties sound.... I think .

I bet the 40s sounded good with the headers but I have heard that originals with stock manifolds have a Tinny Sound to them and listened to a few on You Tube and also listen to Magna Flows before I chose the Super 40 Delta Flows. I personally like the fact I hear them at idle and on throttle but like that fact they quite out at cruising speed so I jam on my tunes
