Default Heater Core Replacement - DONE!

Picked up a replacement heater core at Carlisle last weekend and spent the best part of this weekend replacing the core (and hoses) and also fixing a few vacuum lines that had been chewed through (mice I'm thinking). I lot of effort but now all back together (again) - so that's done, as is the last long weekend of summer . Oh well, I now have lots of heat for some fall cruising!

During:

Before and After:

Next project - replace carpet!

Very nice work. The wood inserts are very nicely done too.

Thks Bill. Yep, the black leather makes the genuine plastic wood grain really pop!

"You are a BRAVE man"........

(I would rather remove the rear suspension/clean/paint/re-install it!)

Nice job! Curious as to many hours it took you? Looks like a lot of work involved there.

I'm told the book says 7 hours - perhaps it does... In between other chores at home I worked on it all Sat afternoon, all Sunday afternoon and all Monday morning. I tagged and bagged the nuts, bolts and parts as well as took a few pics to ensure I knew how wires were routed. I took my time as I'm a 55 year-old novice at this, made reference to internet pics etc as I eased the parts away from their orig position. Using a jack and stand, I lifted the vehicle everytime I needed access to get underneath for hoses, etc. The bonus was finding vacuum lines that had been destroyed - so fixed those as well. IF YOU HAVE THE TIME - it's a great way to learn how the center and right side of the dash are put together.

Now the heater, a/c and vents work as they should with no leaks.

Would I do it again - sure...but not tomorrow!

Doug

Been there and did that on my 73 I swear they put a heater core in the center of the room and built the vette around it!!

Boy sure makes checking and checking again on the reassembly a must.
