Default magnaflow mufflers

Has anyone installed magnaflow mufflers on a C3? Corvette Central sells them in a complete kit. I currently have a full SS exhaust from Mid America with dynomax supper turbo mufflers. They drone bad at idle. The pipes aren't made like OEM and the right exhaust pipe is wedged against the cross member, so I think that adds to the annoyance with vibration from the engine. Like to replace the entire exhaust with one that won't vibrate or drone.

I got the Magnaflow kit from Mid America I believe but its probably the same. I did not like the installation because, as you say, its not oem-like. Since I had headers anyway I had my muffler guy build me a system from the mufflers and curved sections forward. I did not install the crossover since it made the e-brake cable hard to get at. Kinda regretting that now. Sounds OK, a little loud, doesn't really drone and the crossover might have mellowed things out. The crossover itself seemed to be of excellent quality as was all the plumbing but I thought the mounting brackets were poorly thought out.

I have pictures that the Magnaflow guy sent me of their installation on an automatic. If you PM me with your e-mail I will forward to you, provided I can find them again.

I have the magnaflow kit from corvette central on my 81....love them. I like them more now that I have a better cam in it...nice low end tone at idle and when at highway speeds it does not overwhelm me...seems to be a nice balance

You won't go wrong with Magnaflows. I had the Corvette Central kit on a '78 L82 Silver Anniversary and thought the sound was great...low burble at idle that opened up at speed.

I'm running the SS Magnaflow kit with Headman hedders on my 73, but, I had to make a ton of modifications to make it fit right. The 'kit' as sold for the 71-73 came with turn down tips (appropriate for 74 and up cars) and the muffler outlets weren't even lined up for the rear valance. After a few calls between my local retailer and Magnaflow they sent replacement mufflers with the correct offset and I added replacement tips to complete it. It ended up being a royal pain, but, works well now. The sound quality if much better than the Hooker side pipes I replaced and seems better tuned.

Loud is fine. Drone is not. I have a Magnaflow system on my LS1 firebird. No drone, but wanted other input about C3s before I replace a nearly new exhaust.

My LS1 powered '82 has a modified CC 2 1/2 inch dual exhaust with Magnaflows, and after driving it for a while I think they're perfect. Not loud enough to cause drone, yet loud enough to enjoy the exhaust note. It's got 2 cats on it, so is presumably quieter than it otherwise would be.

I installed the magnaflows from CC. They were an easy install, and they sound great. I would recommend them to anyone looking for an exhaust system.

Do they bolt right up?
I would like a more aggressive sound over stock with out getting into changing out hangers etc......
I'd like to do a swap out, is this possible with the Magna Flows?
Thanks,
Marshal

I have Magnaflow mufflers on the Vette & my Mustang, they sound great

The Mustang is a stainless steel system from Magnaflow behind a set of FPA Tri-Y headers.

The Vette is just their mufflers behind headman headers & a custom 2 1/2" stainless steel system constructed by American Racing Headers with Gibson exhaust tips

If you look at the first picture you will see that the hangers were replaced by Magnaflow. Magnaflow used my 80 as a template for the late model C3 Corvettes with a 700R4 transmission upgrade. They told me that everything was bolt on and no modifications were needed.

The Corvette Central exhaust with your choice of muffler is a direct bolt on.

Even has the correct muffler hangers welded onto the mufflers.

Here is a video of mine on the dyno.

Doug,
thanks but your later hangers are completely different than the 68 hangers.
Mine require two 9/16's bolts which mounts the muffler directly to the hanger.
The stock mufflers have a welded bracket attached at the top above the outlet pipe with two 9/16's nuts brazzed on the back side of the bracket.
If Magna Flow offers a one size fits all 68-82 than these may not work for us early c-3r's.
Anybody do a direct bolt on with a 68? Are they year specific application?
Thanks,
Marshal
