Tire Size for Spare Compartment?
What tire size do you recommend carrying for your spare? My current spare is 225/70/15. I recently had to pull my left front tire off to have the air valve replaced. I found it almost impossible to remove and install the tire in the carrier. I had to enlist the help of a friend to release and then later to close the carrier.
Obviously my existing spare is too large for the carrier. Using the tire iron to lift the carrier, I had to use a hammer to knock the carrier bolt off center to release the carrier. There is no way could I change a tire on the road by myself.

You can adjust the bolts to fit your tyre better .The two front ones with the lock nuts and the rear one you had to move to release your spare. Sounds like they are a bit tight

My car is a 1971. When I was in the process of replacing the F70-15 bias ply spare from the 1970s this past spring, I tried fit a 225/70/15 in my carrier and I could not get the carrier to close. Maybe I could have forced it, but I didn't want to break the carrier. I ended up buying a 215/70/15 and it fits perfectly.

I purchased 10 Goodyear Eagle GT 225x70x15 tires for my two 1971 coupes, I adjusted both the tire carriers front and back bolts to be longer (they just unscrew) and the tires fit fine, no problems installing or removing on my own.

Does Goodyear still offer the 225*70*15 tires?

The GOODYEAR tire store I ordered them from had told me they were discontinued recently and I was lucky that they were some of the last ones available. That was on June 13th, 2007.

I bought a space saver donut from a Camaro. It is 29.5 inches tall and bolts right on.
The best thing is that it allowed me to adjust the spare tire tub much further up, and it is now barely visible.
