Default Center gauge cluster

Hello
I have been thinking about adding a oil temp gauge and volt gauge to my 76 and I was planning on getting the gauges from an 82. I know the lettering is different between these years and that is why I was wondering if I could rearrange the gauges as my clock doesn't work and ammeter stopped jumping around the moment I switched to a 1 wire alternator. What I was thinking was moving the fuel and temp down and putting the newer style gauges up top and originals in bottom. Just wondering if it's an easy thing to do or am I gonna be in for a long weekend. I know there is a early vette gauge for volts but if I'm a do both I just thought they'd be better together. Any thoughts or input greatly appreciated and for those who done it any tips. Or should I just worry about the 2 I'm replacing instead of 4 being relocated.

Thanks in advance

I installed an oil temp gauge, black face in my 73 where the clock was. I removed the bezel so it look more factory like. it looks pretty good.

I ditched my '75 ammeter for a '77 voltmeter. Whitegages did an overlay to match the font, etc of the original gauges.

looks good I don't think i'd notice a font difference.
How hard was it to wire and what did you use for the volt source.

I did it, had white gauges make up custom overlays. I put the temp sensor in the trans pan.

I went with LED's while I was in there.

gauges to match the ride sweet. they look cool was it easy to put the overlays and the temp gauge on the clock.

The gauge fits just like the ammeter. I simply sourced the voltage from the adjacent gauge. It reads about 12V static and about 14V engine running. More than likely has a slight voltage drop compared to battery voltage.

Once the gauge cluster is out, it's not too hard. The tedious part is getting the gauge needles back on indicating correctly.
