Welcome to the club and thank you for your service!

I see that you are from the county next door (if your plates are current). Not exactly a car show, but a great gathering happens every Saturday at the Cup O' Joe's at the Lennox Center here in Columbus. A little Columbus Cars and Coffee from about 8am - 11am or so. The better the weather, the better the turn out, but the group meets year round.

Here's the thread to check it out:

Get rid of that flex-fan, and either get a stock replacement clutch fan, or electrics. Both will free up some hp compared to the flex-fan.

Love the car!

OOOOOPS! Also there is no shroud surrounding the flex-fan.....I'm surprised that the engine doesn't overheat.

Agreed, great looking C3, in excellent condition. The fan should be at the top of your list as well as a shroud. I have a custom fiberglass shroud, I can give you a deal on, if you so desire. In fact, that flex fan looks oversized, because look how the previous owner had to use flex hose to arch up and over it.

Another thing that will help your goal of making it look great, is they sell new, repop emission stickers for the engine compartment. You're lucky,(or at least smarter than some of us), that you don't have a lot to do ! Just drive it!

As I said previously I'm not exactly experienced when it comes to cars. I know you are talking about the fan near the radiator but I'm unsure what you mean when you say something is wrong and the part about a shroud I assume is like a safety guard?

That flex-fan is a huge parasitic drag on your engine. It didn't come that way stock.

A fan shroud directs the flow of air more efficiently around the radiator.

Basically, you have the worst combination. Kill's hp, and poor efficiency for the radiator.

You should either hunt down a radiator shroud and a stock clutch type fan setup, or just get electric fans for that radiator.

You used to be able to buy (still might) fan clutches through most auto parts stores. The fan itself you probably need to look around, junkyards, swap meets, just about anywhere as they aren't rare.

A fan shroud isn't available through an auto parts stores. Some of the vendors here might sell repro's.

it will be the longest winter of your life - your C3 parts catalogs will be well dog-eared; and you will be very easy to buy for in coming birthdays and holidays.
Above all, thank you sir for your service to our wonderful country. You more than deserve to be in this elite "family" and let the Forum know if we can ever help you with any trouble-shooting guidance as you settle in. Just remember to wave back! Many thanks again. Seriously.
