Thats pretty cool JR about the vins, as you know 1970 were low production volume cars.
Mike, the Blonde is my Mrs, and she is an awsome find, Palma, she is also a 1970, very nice curves and good motor too.

Here's the picture posted in the other thread, only a cell phone pic. so sorry for the weird tall format
This is #12239 built in June with Snorkles and box sheild.
But this thread rasies another question that I wondered about is the HP call out sticker on the air cleaner lid, I have a different placement than jr9170, which is correct??

LT-1,the setups like mine are out there I have seen them on other all original LS5's in the 14000and 15000 vin ranges. That is the point of this survey to see how early they started using the one piece shields. BTW what was the vin of your LS5 ?

Were you at the NCRS regional in Frisco, TX this past weekend?
Eljay,
That's pretty typical of the label placement on a 1970 with the closed element air filter assembly.
The air filter assembly was changed around the 12000 serial number... Hopefully, this thread may allow a more detailed determination on when this change occurred.
The distributor shielding was changed much later in 1970... Tied in with that was the use of the RFI shield under the distributor cap. There is limited information on this change, but it should have happened around the time the exterior shielding was changed.

Stan Falenski

Stan, glad to see you respond on this thread. The NCRs manual says one piece shields were mid1600 vin range but my 70 454is a one owner in the mid 14000 vin with a one pice shield.I have seen others in the 14-15000 with them also. What is your take on this ? and I agree hopefully this survey will bring about a broad range of vin numbers and Info.

I had wanted to hear about Don's car, but kept being called away by the judging teams. I felt bad about us getting interrupted while he was trying to tell me about his car... Sounds like he has a really nice one too!

Stan
