I can't believe I didn't take any more pix than I did! This was my first NCRS rodeo and I was so focused on learning everything I could from the judging seminars and talking with the other owners about their cars. Just an absolute blast for anyone that loves these cars.
This is a group of judges listening to a master judge, Paul, third from the left. Imagine someone talking for three hours in detail about 70-72's!
My car getting the once over by the exterior judging team. John, the guy on the left taught me tons about how to determine if certain parts are original or repops.
One pic of a 13,000 mile 71 LS6? Never seen one before, very cool beast.

That LS-6 was sold at a dealership a few miles from my hometown... In fact, it's the second LS-6 that this dealer apparently sold. Lots of documentation... Very cool stuff!
I used to pass by that dealership every Friday night and Sunday morning on the way to the drag strip. They definitely sold some pretty cool cars over the years.

Stan

Don,
Were you at the NCRS regional in Frisco, TX this past weekend?
Eljay,
That's pretty typical of the label placement on a 1970 with the closed element air filter assembly.
The air filter assembly was changed around the 12000 serial number... Hopefully, this thread may allow a more detailed determination on when this change occurred.
The distributor shielding was changed much later in 1970... Tied in with that was the use of the RFI shield under the distributor cap. There is limited information on this change, but it should have happened around the time the exterior shielding was changed.

Stan Falenski

Dad always said that while the LS-6 was a serious performance engine the 66 still had more bruit power. I think he is right from what little I've read about the 427. Wasn't the badged hp rating conservative on those things? Thought I've read that people estimate they were really closer to 500 hp.
Also of note. I was surprised that when I looked at the data tag on the LS-6 just under the shifter it only called out a compression ratio of 9 to 1 and 475 ft lbs of torque. I don't have my books in front of me but wasn't the 66 427, 450/425 hp more like 11 or 11.25 to 1?
Interesting too was the redline on the LS-6 at 6500. WOW! I can't imagine winding up that BB to that RPM. I've only got my LS-5 to 4200 so far and you run out of road pretty quick

How many silver/ black 4 speed coupe LS-6's could have been sold out of OKC. He bought it off the showroom floor. He said that they had it a while and couldn't move it.
I've got to look into this. I will ask him what dealership and any other details tomorrow AM. This would be so cool!!!

I want to say that the car sold originally out of Oklahoma, but it's been a while since I saw the documentation. Great original car though... It has about 33,000 miles and is unrestored. As Kevin said, we used it for a judging school in Dallas several years ago.

I'm lovin' this thread, I just wish it wasn't limited to LS5 cars. I assume the change over was the same for small block cars?
When I bought mine the shielding was missing so I used my best guess as to which one it came with.
FWIW, my 14824 L-46 SB car built July 9th came with a dual snorkel and now has a one piece shield.
(jr9170, I don't mean to hijack your thread by submitting my Small block info so if it's going to alter your survey in any way PM me and I'll edit my post.)

The gentleman's name is Pat... He was couple spots down from the 1970-1972 cars with a Fathom green L-36 coupe. I was pretty sure that he still owned the silver LS-6, but Kevin's comment infers that perhaps he sold the car.

Can anyone help me figure out how to find the car/current owner. I would think any collector would want to get history on the cars especially the first owner. If it was truly bought in Oklahoma then it very well might have been my dads. I talk to my dad today and got more details. He was really excited about the possibility of it still being around.
Thanks for any help
