Anyone not "fit" in their C3?
I have a 1970 convertible. I love my car without a doubt. That being said, I don't seem to fit very well inside. I am 6'2" and have very little leg room. My car happens to be a manual transmission, so clutching becomes uncomfortable after driving a long time (more than 30 minutes), so much to the point where I almost do not enjoy driving it. I am considering converting to tilt steering but, beyond that, I am not sure what else can be done.
I also am taller than the "birdcage". My head sticks up almost an inch over the window frame. I put the convertible top up last weekend and I'm sure it looked funny with a large bump where my head was pressing up. Since this is a "fair weather car" only, to bypass this problem, I just removed the top. I am never going to put it up anyways and I removed a little weight too!
For sentimental reasons, getting rid of this car is not an option. So I guess I just have to suck it up!

My Vette has no seats, steering wheel, or a top at this time.
I fit just fine....

This is my youngest son. Know why he`s smiling? Because he knows HE will inherit the Vette someday.... because his BIG older brothers won`t FIT in it!

6'2" 250+ here...tight fit but I manage! Clutch does get a bit tough over time. I have a large frame with broad shoulders. Having the car helps me keep the weight down! On some dips and bumps my head always hits the ceiling...much better fit in warm weather with the T-Tops off!! My C4 is not exactly roomy either. Never a dull moment climbing in and out of that car too!

6'3" with an automatic, leg room is fine once I am in the car. Headroom is tight but livable, mostly a tops off driver. I must say that the tops off with a Windjammer air deflector is the cat's meow for motoring comfort!!

I test drove a '68 and the inch of shoulder room afforded by the '69 was enough to ensure I would get a '69. I am 6' even and mostly legs ( my 5'8" wife is taller than me when we're sitting) and have no issue with the position. Is my seat so worn out that I am getting extra space? It's amazing what just an inch or two here or there does for ergonomics. I bet could rig some mounts for the seat to get another inch or two of leg room.

With the seat all the way back it's perfect for me leg wise. I'd like to have a bit of a bolster in the side of the seat though.
As Brian said, Glass tops will give a person about 2.5" of extra headroom compared to the FG tops. My issue is with the glass tops in I feel like I'm in a fishbowl. With the glass top and the bubble rear window it can get damn hot in there. Didn't run the car much this year with the FG tops on, only in the dead hot of the summer, and only because they offer some shade

'72 Vert, bought in '95, totally modified, so in winter 01-02 along with rack steering, I cut the firewall off the floorboard and up to the height of the steering column on each side, pried it forward with a 2x4 against the back of seat plate...so to lower the pedals/forward about 3" dropping my knees off the wheel.....removed seat and took off the two rear mounts, that knocked 2" off the height, also removed the seat belt retracter cover..... and used the old foam in the recovering, seat sags deliberately, but looks more or less stock.....I did the late shark TT wheel back in '95 it was a fixed position bus driver wheel..... my car was a 4 speed, but needed overdrive so it's now a 200 4r auto....my soft top fits the same as my hardtop did, which I sold long ago....I get in/out just fine....long spine and 6'5".....comfy to drive, and could easy use a stick....

At 6'3" I have difficulty getting foot off and on clutch pedal, definitely could use more legroom. Am looking at a new Corvette for exactly this reason, way more legroom available.

6'2" 230# here as well. Leg room is a bit tight and my legs rest against the door, the shift handle, steering wheel etc when driving
I did add a T & T column from a 78 which helps. The newer T & T columns are 2" shorter from the dash to driver than the earlier columns. Gives me extra room for desert
Driving with the top up is not as comfortable, have to realy squeeze to get in and out

I've got two local friends w/ a 70 and a 71. The 70 has a tilt wheel and older seats with worn out foam. That car fits me great. The 71 has a standard wheel and new foam - I can barely drive that car. Both are coupes with fiberglass tops.
My 78 Pace Car has new foam (78PC-82 style seats) and glass tops. Leg room is great. I bump my head occasionally on rough roads, though. That wasn't an issue before I replaced the seat foam. Better than the 71 in every aspect, though.
