Default Any thoughts on Craigslist purchase ?

Just got to drive her this past weekend. Had to replace both trailing arms, due to rot. Nom 350 with 4 speed. Frame and birdcage look great. I replaced all rear bushings, pulled diff, checked tolerances, all good. Any thoughts on rear clip. The tail light panel ,valance, and spoiler look like one piece from under car. Was there some sort of aftermarket parts that did this ? I like the fender flares, but can't stand the spoiler. I picked the car up for $ 4200 Thanks Paul

I dunno, man. It all works as a package to me. The first thing I would do is get rid of the 4x4 look.

I replaced the leaf spring bolts with standard length bolts and it sits way up high. When I set her back on the ground I couldn't believe how high it was. I forgot to mention it's a 68'

If you like customs (and I do) it has potential. I would start by doing something with the stance. Reduce that gap in the wheel wells between the tire and the fender lip. This can be done at a very small cost if you remove the front springs yourself and cut them to reduce the height. In the rear longer spring bolts should do it.
Good luck with your project.

My guess would be they bondo'd the rear bumper and clip together. Looks damn good for 4200! nice find.

At that price point, I'd say you're in favourable territory to get the rear end back to normal. I'd agree that the rear spoiler has to go, but the flares should stay.

DO NOT cut your springs. Thats some ghetto business right there. You risk effecting compression rate and cornering attributes. You can get stock springs for less than 80 bucks.

Any thoughts on how to remove the spoiler without out replacing the rear deck. I thought they bonded a aftermarket spoiler on top of tail light panel, but the original flared up end is gone. Whoever did these mods back then did a nice job. They used bonding strips on the front fender scoops. I can't tell how they did the rear spoiler though.
I'm currently rebuilding my entire under carriage on my 72 and bought this just to drive around for the summer. Don't want to put a ton of money into it, but would like a meaner look. Christ...it looks like I put SkyJackers under there !!

Lower it and love it. Looks cool as is. Why make yourself nuts trying to "fix" it. drive it till your project is done then sell for more than you paid. win/win

Yeah, absolutely needs that stance adjusted! Otherwise looks good.

...find it a little concerning that the trailing arms were rotted bad enough to need replacement yet the birdcage and frame are fine? I'd look real close at the rear kick ups/corner of the frame behind doors.

Only driver side trailing arm was rotted and bad. I did them both, since I had a used set that I sand blasted and painted. Someone else did work back there, because the rear diff is from a mid 70's car. I have the original diff, needs rebuild. Car spent all it's life in a garage. Previous owner died and son sold car to me. The frame looks really good. No surface rust on birdcage mounts at #2 mount and windshield frame is clean. That's why I bought her. Most 68's I looked at had rusty frames. Thanks for all the comments.

The rear bumper in your case looks like what ecklers sold as a "custom" it was basically a 68-73 rear with a special spoiler sorta like a 78 pace car they made that was bonded over the 68-73 duck tail, of course when sold as an aftermarket part it was one piece,
They also sold it as a full rear clip that had the GT rear window treatment,
Your flares are basic ZL-1,

Here is the one I had for a spell, mine had been busted and repaired a few times, I have seen several versions of this idea...

Car looks great....can you grind down the spoiler about 2in.? Everything else looks good just lower to get the right stance. Good buy....you'll make money on this one.

Just curious, there appears to be an aweful lot missing from the car, did the sale include parts not on the car in the picture? It looks like you got a good deal, but it's really hard to tell without more pictures.

Default I like it!

I think the whole Corvette looks great as it is!

I generally do not like customs on Corvettes, but I have to say this is the best custom look I have seen on a Corvette! You might take it to a few shows and see what others think. But of course, it is your ride so make yourself happy My suggestion is, do not be in a hurry to do anything. However, agree, to me, a couple of inches too high.

Sounds like a great buy too!

In my opinion, you did fine. Drop it a couple of inches, replace the bubble tail lights ( or not) and drive it like you stole it. Make sure that you check the frame over carefully. If the T/As are rotten, I'd make sure the kick ups and birdcage were solid before driving it too hard.
